Carnegie Chronicle
December 2021
Note from the Director
You may have received a letter, heard from a neighbor, or even read about the Carnegie Library Board's goal to raise funds for a matching grant to complete the major renovations of the Gardens Building at 188 Spring Street. The dedicated group in charge of capital fundraising, auspiciously named the Great Expectations Committee, has been working diligently to reach out to everyone in our wonderful community to ask if they can contribute to this building project, which represents the future of our esteemed library. As this year comes to a close and I think back on the many wonderful programs we have held, the stories we have shared and people we have helped, I know that there is so much more to come, and this new building is the next chapter in the story of this library. If you haven't had a chance to give already, please consider doing so today. You can call, come by the library, or simply visit eurekalibrary.org/donate.
Wising you the happiest holiday season,
April Griffith
New Year's Eve (Eve!) Teen Party
We're celebrating the end of 2021 with Eureka's teens on Thursday, December 30 from 7pm to 10pm with live music, an open mic, slam poetry, games (we're busting out a ping-pong table!), a movie, and of course, yummy food and drink. We will be utilizing both the library annex, porch and garden for our activities in order to allow folks to spread out and maintain social distance for the occasion.
Science + Philosophy
Expand your mind and understanding of the universe - join one of our Science & Philosophy groups! Listen and discuss selections of curated books such as Robert Sapolski's Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst, each week on Wednesdays 12:30 PM and Thursdays 12:30 PM with Gary Milczarek in the library meeting room. Contact gary@milczarek.org to learn more.
First Friday Book Club
Friday, January 7th at 10:30 AM the book club will meet in the library garden or meeting room (dependent on the weather) to discuss author Ruth Hogan's debut novel, The Keeper of Lost Things. This quietly moving novel explores the objects that hold magic and meaning for our lives, and the surprising connections that bind us.
