Mr. Macken's Message
Centerville Families,
Our Minnesota winter truly hit us with its chill this week limiting our kids’ time outside for recess. I want to commend the students on their good behavior during indoor recess and thank our paraprofessionals and teachers for finding fun creative things for them to do. If you are looking for something to do with the kids during this last night of brutal cold, consider hosting a family game night and turn the cold weather into an opportunity for warmth, laughter, and connection.
Here are a few compelling reasons to transform your living room into a hub of family fun:
- Stronger Bonds: Shared moments of laughter and play, strengthen bonds.
- Teamwork Triumphs: Many games encourage teamwork and collaboration, providing valuable lessons that extend beyond the game board.
- Mind-Stimulating Fun: Games engage young minds, exercising cognitive abilities through problem-solving and strategic thinking.
- Screen-Free Connection: Board games offer a screen-free alternative, promoting face-to-face interaction for family connection.
- Lasting Memories: Family game nights create memories that endure a lifetime, fondly recalled as our students grow and develop.
Stay Warm!
Mike Macken

Volunteer Spotlight: John Tyrgstad
How or where do you like to volunteer?
I help out with math in my 4th grade son’s classroom a couple times a month.
Why did you decide to volunteer at Centerville?
I greatly enjoy helping out with whatever I can at school. It’s fun to get to know my kid’s classmates and teachers and I enjoy being able to be a positive influence.
What is your favorite part about volunteering?
It’s a great way to be a part of the Centerville community and give back a little! Helping with math is a blast as well as the week to week improvement is fun to be a part of.
