JDAL Student Pacing Guide
One question we hear often is, "How do I know if my child is on track?" JDAL staff recognize this can be challenging for parents/guardians because we don't use grade books at JDAL, so we created a Pacing Guide that shows how students are progressing in earning learning targets.
In order to be considered "on track", high school students should earn 18 targets each term and middle school students should earn 14-15 targets each term. JDAL students earn targets for every single learning experience they complete successfully, such as ALEKS math; HS101, HS201, or MS101; Community Service Projects; Advisory Lessons each day; seminars; and even outside of school learning like family trips!
In our school, learning targets eventually turn into credits toward graduation. JDAL students learn the same targets students learn at the other schools, but HOW our students learn the material is very different. Students at JDAL are guided through the project-based process, but students must take responsibility for completing the learning tasks at a high level of achievement. At JDAL, students must earn at least a 2 on the Proficiency Scale in order for the target to count toward graduation or middle school completion*. Unlike other schools, a score of 1 (similar to a D), does not count.
Luckily, all students at JDAL have unlimited assessments, which means 100% of our students can earn a 4.0 GPA if they wish!
Staff are in the process of transferring all previously earned targets to our new format. When this is complete, we will mail a hard copy of the Pacing Guide and the updated Transcript to the addresses we have on file in Infinite Campus.
*All targets contribute to the Proficiency-Based Grade Point Average (including 1s). All targets with a score of 2 or more are considered toward graduation. ALL targets must be earned with a 2 or more to earn a diploma from JDAL.
