A Message from Mrs. Fantaskey
White Cane Safety Day
What is White Cane Day?
In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a law that created White Cane Safety Day on October 15th every year. White canes are used by people who are blind or visually impaired, and are tools for independence and safety. The mission of White Cane Day is to educate the world about blindness, and how the blind and visually impaired can live and work independently while giving back to their communities, to celebrate the abilities and successes achieved by blind people in a sighted world and to honor the many contributions being made by the blind and visually impaired.
Thank you to Mrs. Cox, our mobility and orientation specialist, Ms. Dettore, our teacher of the visually impaired, and Mrs. Herwig, our librarian for helping with this day.

Counselor's Corner ~ Sparks
Welcome back to Sparks.
You will be receiving these articles on a regular basis through your building’s newsletter with the goal of career education for all Central Bucks students.
Last spring, the students in grades 3-6 were introduced to Smart Futures. Smart Futures is an online career development platform which focuses on grade-specific activities for students and manages the outcomes of the activities in a portfolio which meets the required PA Career Readiness Standards. Classroom teachers will be working with students in Smart Futures. Last year students in grades 3-6 completed a limited number of activities, but this year we will be asking all elementary students to complete the activities for their grade. Any student who chooses, can do the activities in the previous grade band to have a complete portfolio for career readiness. For the most part, students can do the earlier activities independently so it might be an opportunity for you to see Smart Futures at home with your daughter or son. We are asking students not to go beyond the activities assigned to their grade.
SF allows students to discover what they like to do, learn about careers they might want to investigate, and even how to develop a budget. To learn more about SF, watch this short video and you can always ask your child to log onto SF to see what they are learning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAovnVPPEXc

Clearances for Chaperones and Volunteers

If your clearances are up to date, simply upload them into the App Garden-Volunteer Tracker.
If your clearances have expired or if you need to begin the clearance process, simply click on Required Documents for the directions. Once you received the approved clearances, you may then upload them into the APP Garden-Volunteer Tracker.
