It has been a wonderful first two weeks of school as we get to know each other. We started off the year by working on team building and perseverance. Students worked together to save Fred and build spaghetti towers. There were many times that things did not go as planned but they never gave up.I am so proud of them.
Third grade is working on realistic fiction, comprehension and decoding words. We have also started rounding numbers in math. All students are very eager to learn multiplication, which we will be starting in a month or so. They are learning some multiplication facts as a "free" time reward.
Second grade is learning all of the different tools they can use in math. I love watching them use what they learn to figure out solutions to the problems they are working on.
In science we are learning about scientists and what we need to do to be scientists ourselves. All students are so excited about science.
I am positive it is going to be an amazing year. I can not wait to meet you at the open house.

The 4th and 5th graders have been busy filling the day with learning and fun! Many of the students love drawing and get opportunities to do so in class! In math the 5th graders are working on understanding volume, while 4th graders are working on place value, comparing numbers, and rounding. In language arts we are reinforcing R.A.C.E. or Restate, Answer, Cite, and Explain to help fully answer and explain our thinking. We are also working on narrative writing and reading many different books to explore point of view, author’s purpose and more! In Social Studies we are diving into why we explore history and primary and secondary sources of information. In Science we are exploring plant structures and pollination. We even did some experiments with celery and various plants in water that had food coloring to discover how plants carry water to their different parts. We look forward to having you see some of our work during open house!
