Principal's Update
What a great week to be a Hornet! Today, January 12th, marks the end of the 2nd quarter for 4th-8th grade students. It is crazy to think that we are halfway through the school year. This time of year is always a great time for classrooms to get into a routine and a lot of learning can take place. As always, please remember the importance good attendance plays in a student's education. Our goal is to have each student attend 90% or more throughout the school year.
The snow make-up for December 13th will be made up on Friday, February 17th. There is no school on Friday, January 20th.
This week, Mrs. Smith's 4th grade class along with Ms. Hansen attended the Black Hills Symphony Safari to support our speech pathologist, Jami Beck. Mrs. Smith and Ms. Hansen had nothing but great things to say about our students and how well they represented our school. Great job Hornets!
Next week, the middle school will begin there new exploratory classes which include Game On, Woodworking, Musical Theater, Coffee Shop, 3D Art, Yearbook, and World Studies "Spanish."
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

What a beautiful week we've had with nice weather.
This week's classroom guidance lessons continued to focus on South Dakota My Life in the Middle school with the completion of their Matchmaker, Personality Test, and Learning Style quiz in 6th - 8th grade. The Matchmaker aligns interests with careers. The Personality Test uses the Holland Model which breaks down personalities into six traits (builder, thinker, creator, helper, persuader, and organizer). A person can hold different personality traits--many students have two or three. The Learning Style quiz asks questions regarding how students learn and shows the percentage they are of the different learning styles. There are Auditory Learners (learn by listening), Visual Learners (learn by watching), and Tactile Learners (learn by doing/practicing). All three of these tests help students get a rounded idea of what careers best suit their interests and personality while helping them not only learn more about themselves but how they can learn better based on their learning style.
In the Elementary, students continued with their Second Step Lessons. Kindergarten explored how we can recognize someone who is feeling sad and mad by looking at their face, and body and understanding the situation. In 1st Grade, students practiced ways to feel calm and how we can identify someone is feeling calm by looking at their face, and body and understanding the situation. 4th Grade interviewed their partners to help gain knowledge that we all have different perspectives and opinions. By understanding different points of view, we help ourselves grow empathy and be kinder friends.
Have a great weekend!
