Welcome Back Students and Staff!

Welcome Back! The 2022-2023 school year is off to a great start. We're delighted to see so many students returning to in-person instruction and seeing the level of engagement in all the classes. This year's theme is "Learning and Growing Together." While continuing to keep the health and safety of our students and staff a priority, we will continue to grow and expand our wonderful adult school program to meet the needs of our communities. Returning to focus on some of our best practices prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to achieve the school's Mission and Schoolwide Learner Outcomes.

We've seen a lot of great instruction and student engagement throughout this first month of school. At the end of this newsletter are some pictures to give you a glimpse of what we saw in our visits.

Happy Learning!

Director of Adult Education

Immigration Forum on August 30th!

On August 30th, the Citizenship Preparation class hosted an Immigration Forum. The event was brought to us by Congresswoman Linda Sanchez and USCIS representatives. Additional special guests at the event were our Board Member Mr. Jose Rios, Superintendent Dr. John Lopez, and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services (Secondary) Dr. Jessica Medrano. Students gained updates in the naturalization process and were able to engage in some very informative Q&A. The event ended with the singing of the flag salute. About Travis

A little bit about me, I was born and raised in Downey CA. I am a father to a beautiful daughter, and husband to a beautiful wife.

I began my teaching career in Adult Education and have had the privilege at working at Downey Adult School, ABC Adult School, Montebello Adult School, and now Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School. I also have experience working as an Administrator at Downey High School and Sussman Middle School.

I am happy to be joining the NLMUSD family and supporting our communities that we serve. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and seeing the amazing things you do in your class(es).

About Brian

It is with great pleasure that I am able to introduce myself to you all. As a new family member of the Norwalk-La Mirada Adult school program, I would like to thank each of you for a wonderful start to this new position. It has been wonderful! For those of you wondering who this guy is wandering the halls and introducing himself constantly?....A little about myself:

I grew up on Long Island New York, I started my career as a classroom teacher in Santee Ca where I became an Assistant Principal, then moved to a Middle School Principal position in San Marcos for 14 years. I then went on to be a Principal of an Alternative School for At-Risk High School Students in Palm Springs for the past 5 years. I have worked for the University of Phoenix teaching education classes at night and have been a consultant for Total School Solutions assisting districts in need.

As for my personal life, I am an avid boater, sailor and water enthusiast I even off road in a vehicle called the "Principals Office". Most weekends you will find me out on the ocean sailing or searching for that fish story! I have two children, Ashley (32) and Dylan (24). My better half is Marji and is in the picture you see in this article... I live down in Dana Point on the coast.

I look forward to meeting you all. Please do not hesitate to stop and say hi and introduce yourself. I am here to help, don't be a stranger and let's make it a great year!
