Having a Conversation and Kindness
Dear Ben Franklin Families,
This month in guidance we focused on the character traits of Caring, Kindness, and the importance of being kind. Children were reminded of our Ben Franklin theme - Take Care!
Kindergarten and First grade classes listened to the story The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Then each class worked together to create their own kindness quilt showing all the different ways they care for others.
In Second and Third grades, students listened to the story Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson. At the conclusion of the story, students were encouraged to take a kindness pledge and share a time they showed kindness. Each student had the opportunity to drop a stone into a bowl of water to illustrate the way kindness ripples out and away touching others, just like the ripples of water created by the dropped stone.
Our social skill of the month for March was introduced at our recent Spirit Day. Children were reminded to use their "H.E.A.D," when having a conversation. It is important to be a good listener when being part of a conversation, and most importantly, do not interrupt. All through the month of March and beyond, we will be reinforcing good conversation skills with your child.
Thank you for your continued support of the Guidance Program.
Sincerely,
Dawn Wolf
School Counselor
