Take the ZYX Challenge
Record yourself attempting to say the Alphabet backwards and post it on social media. Make sure to include the #zyxchallenge and #dyslexiaawareness This challenge is to show students that we can relate to the daily struggles and we are here to support them. Decoding Words Tip
When a student is struggling decoding a word, it is helpful to remind them of the proper mouth and tongue placement for the given sound. Often times our students are struggling trying to figure out a specific sounds and how to produce them. Reminding them about mouth/tongue placement are little tips we use in group.
Strategies for Chunking and Breaking Apart Words by Syllables
When there are two consonants between two vowels (VCCV) the syllables are usually divided between the two consonants. nap*kin
When one consonant comes between two vowels (VCV) the syllables will be divided after the first vowel before the consonant. ro-bot (find the vowel go next door)
We use these strategies for multi-syllabic words as well.
