Dear Mariano Castro Parents,

Does your child have a growth mindset? Or do mistakes discourage them? Help your child to understand that the only way we can learn and change is to make mistakes. Both success and failure are learning opportunities and therefore are both valuable experiences. This focus on growing from all our experiences leads to happier and emotionally healthier children. Simple language changes can help you with this. For example, when your child says "I don't know how to do it", encourage them to add the word "yet" to the sentence: "I don't know how to do it yet". This keeps us forward-focused and not dwelling on what we think are our short-comings.

Modeling this kind of thinking for ourselves also helps our children to develop into positive, forward-thinking individuals!

Best Regards,

Theresa Lambert

Class Posting Donations

Many of you were able to make your donations at the Class Posting event held on 8/10 at the school. If you were not able to make a donation at the event, there are green forms in the office to help you complete this part of getting back to school. We do ask that each student have their school shirt paid for and any other donation that will fit your budget. Cash is accepted or checks payable to: Castro PTA. Please complete your donations by the end of September.

Open PTA Position

The PTA has decided to search for a Walk-a-thon Chairperson, instead of Event Coordinator. The duties are smaller and it is for one event only, not all school year. The PTA and the WAT committees will assist this person to carry out the duties. There is an outline of tasks and ideas from past years, and the Walk-a-thon (WAT) committee volunteers will help you with the work. The WAT this year will be held on October 6th at the school. Please consider being a role model for your children and leading others by volunteering today. All languages and skill levels are invited to help. Parent support is the way to make a great school event! Please contact Fernanda Brant (650) 669-2280 in Spanish, or Trudy Wilson (650) 968-2242 in English, to learn more.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops are a great way to earn more money for Castro school! Please collect as many of them as you can. Ask your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to donate them for your child’s school. It is amazing how fast they add up and turn into money for Mariano Castro Elementary. Collect and turn them in to the collection box in your child’s classroom or in the Castro Office. The submission date is Friday, October 27, 2017. Keep collecting Box Tops in the corner of your drawer all year long!

Volunteers Needed for WAT

There are many small jobs that need volunteers. Please consider a small duty. Do you have 30 minutes or 1-2 hours per week. If you work a lot, maybe you can help for one day each month. The students and the parents, like you, depend on the PTA to provide safe and fun activities, and to raise money to fund programs that we need at Castro School. Contact the office and ask about volunteering. You will be put in touch with someone to help find the job that works for you, your time schedule, and your interests. The best schools have the best parents! Volunteer this year.

The method has been proven successful for individuals with learning challenges, including dyslexia, hyperlexia, ADHD, and ASD.
