Mrs. Coleman's Weekly News!
This week we focused on the skill of rhyming words using the story, "Room on the Broom". This book is a great and fun Halloween story! It uses rhyming words as the witch drops things from her broom, and picks up new animals to ride. We made a word list of the rhyming words from the story and identified them on each page. During centers they matched picture cards to the correct rhyming family for bee, bug and ring and wrote the corresponding words on paper. We worked on highlighting sight words in sentences/ short stories and lastly wrote sets of lowercase letters using correct form and case.
This week in Math, we focused on non-standard measurement. We used paper clips, unifix cubes, and pencils to measure length of different objects. They measured several items including: cut outs of their feet, :) pictures of different objects, leaves, and lastly items from around the room. Everyone estimated and measured amounts using the above tools, shared their findings, and compared with their table partners measurements to see which had the greatest length and height.
