GOALS FOR THE WEEK
WEEKLY WORDS OF WISDOM
GIVE ONE, GIVE ONE
Have you ever heard of the concept of “Buy one, get one” or “BOGO”? How can you not get excited to buy one item and get another one free? Maybe the magic worked on you and you ended up with 2 new pairs of shoes instead of 1 pair or two pepperoni pizzas instead of just a single pie. We are not here to judge because everyone likes a good deal and saving money. However, we have a new slogan for you and your family that we believe is more powerful and will create even more joy for the world around us.
This week, we are going to GIVE ONE, GIVE ONE. GIVING requires us to be aware of others’ needs and our willingness to act. There are many different ways to GIVE and when we do, we tap into our empathy, compassion, and generosity. When we know to whom we are giving and how we can best GIVE, we build and strengthen the connection with ourselves, our friendships and our relationships. When we authentically GIVE, we don’t expect anything in return. When we genuinely GIVE from the heart, we create JOY that is meaningful, valued, and purposeful. This is why GIVING matters.
FAMILY FOCUS
FEELING JOYOUS
The JOY of GIVING begins when we think about how we can support others– a kind word, a thoughtful note, taking the time to help someone and so much more. It’s being aware and noticing what people might need, appreciate and value. Maybe we notice someone who enjoys reading and we make a bookmark for them. Maybe we know that someone loves to cook or bake and you download some recipes they might like. We might know their favorite sports player, musician or flavor ice cream. When we pay attention to what brings happiness to the people around us, we are able to create JOYFUL experiences for them. As a family, take some time to think about the questions below and how you can bring joy and a smile to those around you.
- Which do you enjoy more, GIVING or receiving? Why might that be?
- When was a time you created JOY for someone else? What did that look like? How was that experience?
- What are some ways you can be more knowledgeable of what makes people happy?
- What is it like knowing that you have the ability and capacity to bring JOY to others?
- How does GIVING to others show that they MATTER?
