- All absences and tardies must be excused within 24 hours of the absence/tardy or a consequence (i.e. detention) will be issued. Once a consequence has been assigned, it will not be dismissed.
Trimesters
Poway High School is on a Trimester/3-by-5 system. Students can take 5 classes per day, 3 trimesters a year. What that means: You can finish a full "year" of a subject in 2 Trimesters. This is generally great for students and gives them more opportunities for advancement or remediation.
However, if you are transferring to us from a semester or quarter school mid-year, it can be complicated and confusing.
Our Trimesters are divided as such:
Tri 1: August - Mid November
Tri 2: Mid November - Mid March
Tri 3: Mid March - June
For freshmen and sophomores, a mid-year transfer is easily overcome with our trimester system, because they can make up classes they might lose. For juniors, losing classes can be more problematic. For senior students who are short on credits, a mid-year transfer can mean the difference between graduating and not. We try to help students get the credits they have earned, but if we see a possible obstacle to graduation, we will let you know.
Note: To earn credits for courses, a student needs to be sitting in classes by the 10th day of the trimester.
Graduation Requirements and A-G Requirements
Each Trimester class counts as 5 credits, if completed successfully. A trimester class is equal to a semester or quarter class at other schools.

Poway High parents use a program called MyPLAN (also called Synergy) to keep track of their students' information. You will log into your MyPLAN dashboard to access the suite of programs available to you. You can log into MyPLAN with your user name and password at myplan.powayusd.com. MyPLAN recently underwent a total overhaul, so if you were familiar with it in the past, you may want to log in and look around to learn about the changes.
Students can also log into MyPLAN with their Student ID and password. The default password for students is their 6-digit birthday.
If you have issues logging in, first try resetting or recovering your user id or password at https://password.powayusd.com.
Most teachers also use a system called Canvas (formerly called MyConnect) for assignments and projects. The Canvas log-in is the same as the MyPLAN/Synergy log-in.
NOTE: To log into the school-provided Google Suite, students will use their log-in address. This is made up of the student's first name, last initial, and last 5 digits of their student ID + @stu.powayusd.com. As an example, Tommy Titan's would be
tommyt34567 @ powayusd. com - These are not email addresses. Students will want to have a personal email address which you can get free from your preferred email provider.
Poway High also uses a program called Xello for college and career planning for students. You can contact Karly Wardwell or Jaime Brown for more information about using Xello.

Senior Portraits
Class of 2024,
It's time to book your Senior Portrait sitting! Only senior portraits taken at Keane Studios will be included in next year’s yearbook. If you have not already received an email from Keane, please go to their website (www.keaneseniors.com) and click BOOK NOW to schedule an appointment this summer.
For your portrait sitting, dress to impress! Outfits should meet PHS dress code, and we suggest wearing solid, darker colors. Boys are encouraged to wear a coat and tie or a collared shirt, and girls should consider wearing more formal attire to set their senior class portraits apart.
