Low and high assistive tech help for students with dyslexia
Info about Dyslexia
1 in 5 people are diagnosed with dyslexia. It is extremely important that children in the K12 classroom are not left behind. Most students who are dyslexic have trouble with reading, writing and grammar. There are low and high assistive technologies out there that can help students. Below are some of the most useful assistive technologies I have found to help students with dyslexia.
Speech-To-Text
This app allows for students to create text through their voice instead of typing or writing. This can help a K12 student because they will be able to say what they are trying to communicate and have the computer type for them. Then they will be able to see how words are spelled and what type of grammar is used.
Read, Write and Type
This software is good for students of all ages. By using this software once the K12 students gets older they can keep using this software without having to buy a new one. This helps with reading, phonics, spelling and word processing. It uses colorful games, music and animation to help the student learn. It also has can print out progress reports for teachers and parents.
Highlighting Tape
This is a low cost and easy way to help your K12 student read. It is different color clear tape that students can use to highlight different lines. This will make it easier for students to keep their places and focus on one line at a time.
