ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
This week was Spirit Week at CCS and school spirit was certainly alive and well each and every day! Students continued to be excellent learners while wearing little kid attire and accessories, costumed as their favorite characters, sporting wild and crazy hair, dressing alike as groups and getting comfy in their PJ’s. Our CCS Student Council organized and sponsored this event.
We had a few special events within our classrooms this week!
On Monday, students in grades 4-6 Skyped with NASA astronaut Ricky Arnold - who just came back from 6 months on the International Space Station in November. Ricky is one of three teachers that were selected as part of the Educator Astronaut program back in 2003 and his tour on the ISS was really focused on outreach and education.
It's been hands-on math and science all week as Mr. Baird's 5th graders explore ratios, coding and engineering while trying to solve the Mars maze with their lego robots. We assure you no lego people were harmed in this lesson! Check out the video thanks to CVSD Technology leader Bonnie Birdsall - http://ow.ly/ADCq50qlELE#cvsdvt
On Wednesday, our CCS Ukulele Band, led by music teacher Monica Littlefield, visited the Charlotte Senior Center for the afternoon.
The Grade 3 team hosted a showcase of student work on Friday morning.
Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to vote for which local agency will receive a year-end donation from CCS’s “Be the Change” efforts. Positive student behavior is acknowledged with positive feedback and students receive pennies, which are collected in classroom jars. Class goals and school-wide goals are acknowledged with a variety of celebrations and the final collection of pennies is counted up and donated to a local agency.
This afternoon, we wrapped up our week with a school-wide assembly and PBIS celebration. During the assembly, the local agencies receiving the most student votes were placed on a wheel, which was spun to determine the recipient of this year’s “Be the Change” donation. CCS will proudly donate the proceeds of our positive student behavior to the Make-A-Wish Foundation! The assembly was also attended by Champ from The Vermont Lake Monsters. Champ helped kick off our CCS PTO Lake Monsters fundraiser.
Following the assembly, students participated in a PBIS schoolwide celebration! Students in grades K-4 were able to choose between a variety of activities hosted in various classrooms, including dance parties, movement/active games, board games, coloring, building, puzzles, legos and short movies. Students in grades 5-8 chose between various locations for quiet spots, games, movies, a walk up Pease Mountain and a variety of games outside. It was a fun, festive way to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and staff as we head off for Spring Break.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
