ORES Newsletter
December 2, 2022
Dear Oak Ridge Families,
Wow! It is already December! First semester is flying by! Teachers have been working hard to make the next three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas break fun and impactful educationally. Second grade has begun "Taste Test Tuesdays" where they taste test foods from different regions of the world as they study these regions. This week, they tasted Jackfruit Candy from the Philippines, Seaweed from Asia, Chocolate Covered Banana from Croatia, Ketchup Chips from India and Heart Cookies from Great Britain. Check out their taste test video below. Throughout the next week, teachers will be decorating classroom doors to brighten the hallways for the holiday season. Administrators are preparing for the annual "Hot Chocolate Train" to surprise students on a cold morning this month. The next three weeks are going to fly by with many holiday events planned at school and in the community.
The Oak Ridge Elementary Christmas Concert for Early Childhood through fifth grade will be December 8th in the old gym. Student attire should be festive. Please have students here and seated in the old gym with their teacher by 6:40PM. The concert will begin at 7:00PM. PTO will again bid VIP seating for the Christmas concert. See the PTO flyer below for additional information.
The annual Oak Ridge Community Christmas Parade will be December 3rd with events from the Oak Ridge PTO and the Oak Ridge Alumni Foundation (see flyers below). The parade will start at 6:00PM. Christmas Spirit Week will be December 12th-21st. The 2nd quarter celebration will be December 21st @ 11:00AM in the old gym. Parents, come and help us celebrate the end of 2nd quarter with fun, games, and prizes. School will dismiss at 12:30PM on December 21, 2022 for Christmas break and resume on January 4, 2023 for second semester.
There will be no After School Adventure Club on December 21st when students dismiss early for break.
Oak Ridge Elementary will host the following charity hat days throughout the year. Students can donate $1 to wear a hat to school. Proceeds will go toward school supplies for students.
