Meet Our School Literacy Coach-Mrs. Amy Martin
Hello Fordham Families! I am Amy Martin, and I am the literacy coach at Fordham Early Learning Academy.
I have wanted to be a teacher since my earliest childhood memories. I don’t think I ever gave a different answer to the “What do you want to be…” question. I would still answer that the only thing I want to be when I grow up is a teacher. I started teaching in North Carolina in 1994 and have had a variety of teaching experiences from PreK-5th grade as a teacher and as a literacy coach. In 2016 I moved to Maryland, where I spent 3 years working with all grade levels as a reading interventionist then, in 2019, we moved to Ocala, Florida, where I taught 1st grade and then began working as a literacy coach last year.
I am so excited to be at Fordham, where my real passions as a teacher and a coach can be utilized. While I enjoy all students, my real joy comes from early literacy. Giving students the strategies and skills to become readers is the most magical experience I can imagine. I love working with teachers to plan for great instruction. I believe every student is an individual, and I work hard to choose the best strategy for every student to be successful.
I am a wife and also a mom to 4 of my own children, aged 27-18. My youngest is the only one who moved to Florida with us, and he is a senior in high school this year. I look forward to working with your families and our students for many years to come. GO FOXES!
