Assuring learning excellence and readiness for a changing world.

COVID Update

Thank you, Scarlets, for doing your part in masking up, social distancing, and getting vaccinations. It is exciting to see that these practices have had an impact on COVID and we are starting to see things getting back to normal!

Please remember that we need to continue to follow the Safe Learning Plan through the end of the school year, and this includes wearing masks in school.

Those students who took advantage of the vaccination clinic at school will receive their second dose at school on May 27th, between 10:00 and 12:00.

Another 1st Dose Vaccination Clinic will take place on June 1st at Prairie Winds and DMMS. High School students are eligible to participate. Please use this link for more information and to register.

Last Week of School

Just as we did with first semester, the last week of school will be a concentrated effort to support students who are failing. All students are welcome to come to school if they would like, but students with passing grades could consider May 28th as their last day of school.

Structure of the last week:

  • Students who are failing a class, or who want to improve their grade in a class, will attend during that scheduled class period.

  • Teachers will work with students in need of support during the class period.

  • Teachers may schedule times to meet with specific students.

While we want kids in school, this is the last opportunity staff will have to provide additional time and support and assist students in earning credit toward graduation. Students who are failing are required to attend school during the last week, and students who would like to improve their grade or simply want to attend school, would have the option to attend school June 1-4. Students who are passing but attending school for the purposes of improving their grade will still need to follow the retake procedures and guidelines for their appropriate courses.

Chromebook/Textbook Check In

All students will need to turn in their chromebooks and all textbooks at the end the school year. Students can turn in their chromebook to the media center beginning May 28th. All chromebooks and textbooks must be turned in by 3:30pm on Friday, June 4th.

Please use this link for more information from our tech department in regard to chromebooks.

Congratulations!

MOFF (Moving Our Futures Forward) has been awarded the 2021 Spirit of Youth Award. MOFF is made up of student leaders with a goal to connect students and the community by providing access and information on social justice through student projects, community outreach, leadership lessons and student mentoring. This group provides a safe place for students to come together and have conversations around racial equity and social justice.

Historical Marker at West High School

A group of Mankato West students are raising money for a historical marker on our campus. This marker will commemorate the 1961 speech Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave in our high school auditorium. The goal of this marker is to increase awareness about this historic event in our community. Recently, a group of students finished a mural in the auditorium to commemorate this event, and we would like to increase awareness by adding a marker outside the entrance to our school. This marker would be visible for anyone who visits or walks by our school. The marker will cost around $2,595. Thanks to a generous donation from the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, we are well on our way to reaching our goal.

If you would be interested in helping our group complete this project, please consider a donation to this investment in our community. You can drop off donations at the main office, or mail to Mankato West High School, 1351 S Riverfront Drive. Please make a note that the donation is for the historical marker.
