Linen Fundraiser - The HGHS band is selling The Elson Company Cloud Comfort Luxury Linens now through October 31. They are $39 a set and come in twin, xl twin, full, queen, king, and California king. Each set is brushed micro-fiber and offers the softness and feel of 1500 thread count sheets. They have deep pockets to accommodate for oversized mattresses. Plus they are wrinkle free and have a continuous elastic for a slip free fit. All sets come with one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and two pillowcases (twin only has one pillow case) and come in the colors gold, chocolate, light tan, sage, aqua, grey, white, dark tan, navy blue, eggplant, and dark red. HGHS is giving the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test (ASVAB) on November 5th. The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success. It's open for all juniors and seniors on a voluntary basis. Contact Ms. Creech or Mrs. Hutchison for more info.

Trojan Baseball Hole-in-One Challenge- Coach Lovell would like to invite you out to our Hole In One Challenge on November 1st. We will qualify golfers from 8:00am-4:00pm. We will call back qualifiers to hit for an opportunity to win ONE MILLION DOLLARS! We are looking forward to a great crowd. Pecan Fundraiser - The basketball cheerleaders are hosting their annual Pecan Fundraiser. Pecans are from Sweet Water Pecan Company and will be delivered the Friday before Thanksgiving. See a basketball cheerleader or Miss Odom to view the selection and place your order.
Trojan Prospects - Calling young men in grades K-8 in the Hazel Green High School cluster! Trojan Prospects will be an extension of our baseball program in every way. $40.00 gets each prospect a game cap, jersey, and entry into each regular season game at Hazel Green a High School. All paperwork and payment in an envelope with prospect's name should be returned to your prospect representative or high school office by October 20th. Moores Mill Intermediate Warrior Run 5K - Join us Saturday, November 8 to raise money for a playground for MMIS students. Late registration begins at 7:00 AM, 5K race 8:00 AM, “Warrior Trek” obstacle course (for students in K – 6 grade) 9:00 AM, and Awards 9:30 AM. Cost is $25 by October 10 ($35 late registration). A community-wide interest meeting will be held at Hazel Green High School on Monday, October 20th at 4:30 pm in the cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting is to gather community input regarding future plans and development of Sharon Johnston Park and the proposal to include a water park at the current pool site.

The University of Montevallo is hosting a reception for prospective students and their families on Thursday, October 23 at the Huntsville Museum of Art in downtown Huntsville. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. and all interested students are invited. It will include opportunities to learn more about the university, scholarship awards, and campus life. Special Programs
Overseas Study Scholarships - The National Security Language Initiative for Youth provides merit-based scholarships to U.S. high school students to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs. Programs are available for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian and Turkish. A NSLI-Y scholarship covers program costs for participants including domestic and international travel; tuition and related academic preparation; language testing; educational and cultural activities focused on language learning; orientations; meals; and accommodations, commonly with a host family. NSLI-Y is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week - Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement. All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Trojan Daily Tips - All the newest information will be at the top, followed by our Athletic Schedules and Current Announcements. Information from previous newsletters remains posted in Current Announcements until it expires. I welcome parents to send scores, pictures and updates from any Hazel Green sports or activities. We can't brag about it if we don't know about it. Scholarship and college visit information will only be posted once, and then it can be found on separate webpages for General Scholarships, College and University Scholarships, and School Visits and Special Programs.
Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.
Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors during school. First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.
Parenting Assistance Line: PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.
Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
Loyalty Reward Tags: (Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag. Just stop by the main office to pick one up.
