The CCMS Debate Team Argues to Victory!
On Wednesday, 2/23, CCMS competed at our first in-person tournament at the FCDI Central #3 at South Lake High School.
Colt Glenn competed in the Impromptu Speaking Event. Impromptu is a public speaking event where students have seven minutes to select a topic, brainstorm their ideas, outline the speech, and finally, deliver the speech.
Colt Glenn won 1st place as the Middle School Champion.
Keagan Joyce competed in the Informative Speaking Event. In Informative Speaking, students author and deliver a ten minute speech on a topic of their choosing.
Keagan Joyce delivered a speech about Saint Patrick and won 1st place overall.
Daniel Park competed in the Lincoln-Douglas Event. This debate format is a competitive speaking activity that involves two debaters arguing for and against a resolution on a predetermined topic. LD focuses on the conflicting values of social and philosophical issues.
As such, they become well-acquainted with the intellectual tradition of normative ethics, to determine whether an action is just or unjust.
Daniel Park won 1st place as the Middle School Champion.
Gabrielle Walker, Noah Baune, and Isabel Geskey competed the Extemporaneous Speaking Event. In the Extemporaneous Speech competition, enrolled participants prepare for thirty minutes on a question related to current events and then give a seven-minute speech responding to that question.
Isabel Geskey won 1st place as the overall champion.
Gabrielle Walker won 3rd place overall.
Special mention goes to Alyssa Fougere who competed in the Original Oratory and delivered a fantastic speech. In addition, Noah Baune won 1st place as the Middle School Champion at last month's FDCI Central #2.

Florida Women’s History Essay and Video Contest
The Florida Women’s History Essay contest for Middle School students presents the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many ways that women’s history has become woven into the fabric of our state and national story. Sharing the narratives of women’s lives encourages girls and young women to think larger and bolder, and gives boys and men a fuller understanding of what women can accomplish. There is real power in hearing women’s stories, as it inspires today’s generations and opens the way to the future.
Each year, the Commission seeks essays and videos on different topics related to women’s history, designed to inspire the future leaders of our state and to help them learn about women’s history. Winning students are awarded prizes and recognized by the Commission. For more information please visit: http://fcsw.net/contests/
Emergency Cards
If you have not filled out the online emergency cards on the parent portal, please do so. In the emergency cards there is a section where there is parent consent for school health services. We have over 400 students that have no emergency cards. Please fill out the emergency card ASAP. If you have checked no consent for school health service, please fill out the provided form. Moving forward if we have no consent or parents haven't filled out emergency cards we can't see them in the clinic.
