Illness & When to Keep Your Child Home

Current BCPS policy, in accordance with CDC guidelines, states that children should stay home if they display ANY obvious/visible symptoms of illness, including severe congestion or runny nose. Your child needs to be completely symptom free for 24 hours without relying on any medication before being able to return to school. And if your child in particular displays any of the symptoms below, please call the front office (443-809-7055) or the school nurse directly (443-809-6029) for advice on whether your child needs to be seen by their doctor or requires a COVID-19 test from a local clinic that offers them (e.g. Express Care, Patient First, etc.).

      • Sore throat
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
      • New loss of taste and or smell

      Safety During Arrival & Dismissal

We would like to remind families to exercise caution during arrival and dismissal times. Please drive slowly in the parking lots and avoid aggressive driving habits such as sharp or quick turns and cutting through the parking lanes. In the main visitor lot, please pull all the way up to where advised by staff so as to allow additional cars behind you access to the drop-off curb. Do not just stop and hold up the flow of traffic as cars in front of you are still moving. If the visitor lot is too full, you are welcome to either temporarily pull off to the side on Delvale Ave and walk to school via the main sidewalk, or you may also use the church visitor lot adjacent to the school as a temporary space to park.

Only buses are allowed in the bus loop between 8:20am and 8:35am. If you are already in the bus loop when the first bell rings at 8:20am, you will be prompted to move immediately. It is critical that both adults and children use the available crossing guards whenever moving between our school and Holabird MS. Avoid any drop-off locations that would involve your child walking across the parking lot in the way of any moving vehicles. Finally, parents and any emergency contacts with pickup privileges must be able to present a photo ID at any moment. If a photo ID cannot be presented, we will be unable to release the student.

Accessing FOCUS and Schoology via a Parent MyBCPS account

There is now a way for families to review and update student contact information themselves via the FOCUS platform, which is especially important when it comes to adding new emergency contacts and designating who has the ability to pick up your child from school. Simply view this short video below that explains the process, or you can click here for written instructions. Otherwise, you will need to update by hand a print-out of the student’s contact sheet, sign off on the changes, and return it to the school as soon as possible. A parent MyBCPS account also grants parents the ability to review progress reports/report cards, view student absences, as well as gain access to Schoology. Please note that it may take up to 30 minutes to gain access to FOCUS and up to 48 hours to access Schoology from when you start this process.

      Receiving School Messages

When you first registered your child, you were asked whether or not you as a parent wished to receive emergency school messages sent as a text message directly to your cell phone. Non-emergency messages typically get sent out to families by way of automated phone calls, emails, or both. And if you wish to receive emergency text messages from the school (or did at one point but they stopped), simply text the letter 'Y' or word "YES" to 67587 directly from your mobile phone. If you do not receive an automatic confirmation message in return, please contact the main office at 443-809-7055 for assistance.

      ESOL Welcome Center Has Moved

All families new to the county enrolling students in grades 1st – 12th and who primarily speak a language other than English should make an appointment at the ESOL Welcome Center. Families will be given a folder during their appointment to keep all the documents presented by the Welcome Center staff and will be asked to take that completed folder back to their zoned school. The ESOL Welcome Center Pupil Personnel Worker will continue to assist all families experiencing homelessness. Families with other residency designations will need to complete any missing documentation with the Pupil Personnel Worker based at their zoned school.

To make an appointment, or to learn about the ESOL Welcome Center's information workshops and additional services, contact Yosselin Marroquin Artiga at 443-809-6752 (speaks both English & Spanish). Their new address is:
