"Create Your Own Professional Learning" with the Oakland Schools Digital Learning App
The Oakland Schools Digital Learning Team has an “app” and we can’t wait for you to start using it! With our app on your mobile device, you will have instant access to our newsletters, upcoming professional learning sessions, tech tips and tools, and more.
But wait, that’s not all! Using the resources found in our app you can create your own professional learning opportunities and earn SCECH credits and/or certificates of professional learning hours. You can complete a “Try This” suggestion, work through a tutorial linked in the app, try a classroom strategy, or implement a resource that has been highlighted. After your exploration and learning is completed, you will submit a short essay describing your experience and share links to any artifacts you created or used. Each submission will earn one hour of professional learning time and you will be eligible to apply for one SCECH credit. Our app is updated monthly so new opportunities to create your own professional learning will be available throughout the school year. It is possible for you to earn up to 30 SCECH credits using our app throughout the year.
Oakland County educators who submit two professional learning write ups are eligible for classroom rewards. Classroom rewards are bundles of goods that are classified into categories such as teacher supplies, maker supplies, construction kits, classroom books, professional books and more. You can select the category you prefer for the rewards you earn. Thank you REMC Association of Michigan for providing the funding for the rewards!
Join us for a FREE, 30 minute, virtual session where you will learn about all of the features found in the Oakland Schools Digital Learning app, install the app on your mobile device and leave knowing how you can create your own professional learning and earn SCECH credits and classroom rewards.

EduProtocols: Lesson Frames to Engage Students in Learning
EduProtocols are instructional lesson frames that are designed to engage students in learning through critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. EduProtocols will provide you with fresh and meaningful ways to develop original, engaging and effective instruction. They can be used with any subject and most grade levels. (Best for 2nd-12th grade but adaptable for younger students.) Students learn the structure and the flow of the EduProtocols via low cognitive load lessons. Once students are familiar with the protocols for how they are going to learn, they can easily move on to using them to access content, develop skills, and showcase their knowledge. Note: EduProtocols can be used as paper/pencil activities or digital activities. The digital EduProtocol templates we will be using are made with Google Workplace tools, but they can easily be created on other platforms.
In this FREE workshop series, you will
attend a virtual session where you will be introduced to several EduProtocols and experience what it is like to use them. (2 SCECH credits available for this session)
receive a copy of the book, “EduProtocol: Field Guide-Book 1.”
have the option to get credit for reading the book by responding to prompts about the text via a game set up just for this purpose. Rewards, items to use in your classroom (see images above), will be given to individual players for high scores and/or great reflections. (1-10 SCECH credits available for this portion depending on how much of the book you read and how many game prompts your complete.)
have the option to attend a second virtual session to learn how to start the school year with EduProtocols and make a plan for beginning to use them with your students. (2 SCECH credits available for this session.)

Summer Coffee Break Professional Learning
Summer Coffee Break professional learning experiences have two parts to each session. The first part is a fast-paced, 20 minute, online session where you will learn how to use a digital tool. The second part is an opportunity for you to create and submit an artifact that demonstrates how you have implemented the digital tool demonstrated at the online session. Participants who complete both parts of any one session will be able to apply for 1 SCECH credit for a $10 fee. For the same $10 fee you can earn a total of 3 SCECH credits if you attend all sessions and submit artifacts for all three.

Session One: Baamboozle Learning Games
Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 9:20 AM
Baamboozle is a freemium game platform that can be used in-person or in a synchronous, online learning session. Students do not need accounts to play. It is an excellent way to get students speaking, as answers are given verbally. Baamboozle has a built-in library of thousands of games ready to play in all subjects. It is also quick and easy for you to make and customize your own. Join us at this session to learn how to get started using Baamboozle and find out how you can earn 1 SCECH credit by creating your own Baamboozle game to use with your students in the fall.
Session Two: Using the Highlight Tool Add-on for Google Docs
Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 9:20 AM
The Highlight Tool Add-on for Google Docs lets you and your students create and edit customized, digital highlighters that allow you to easily understand the meaning of the highlighter colors because of the key that shows up in the document sidebar.
The customized highlighters can be used to identify parts of a story or article, categorize ideas, emphasize important facts, etc. The highlighted text can be exported to a separate document for analysis. Teachers can share a set of highlighters with their students. This allows you and your students to use the same highlighters and guidelines. Join us at this session to learn how to get started using the Highlight Tool Add-on for Google Docs and find out how you can earn 1 SCECH credit by putting the tool into practice.
Session Three: Organizing Bookmarks in Chrome
Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 9:20 AM

Create folders for similar websites and easily locate them all without having to search for them within your saved bookmarks. Need more space in your bookmarks bars? Learn to use icons in place of the website names, or rename the bookmark with a shorter name. Join us at this session to learn how to start organizing your bookmarks and find out how you can earn 1 SCECH credit by creating a more organized system for your bookmarks.
Self-paced Courses
- Using iMovie for iPad in the Classroom - iMovie is a powerful but easy to use video editing app that comes free with iPads. iMovie is easy to learn, easy to use and can produce great results that will wow students, parents and colleagues. With iMovie you and your students can create digital stories, reports, etc. by adding titles, voice, music, transitions, credits and more to videos and photos. This course will teach you how to use iMovie on an iPad. You will be guided, via video and text-based tutorials, through all of the steps needed to use iMovie on an iPad. 6 SCECH credits are available for a $10 fee
- Using Google Sites to Create a Teacher Website - A teacher website is a great place to post classroom information, resources, schedules, field trip information, and share student work and photos! A teacher website helps increase communication with parents and students. It can also showcase student learning and open doors to connecting with other classrooms in other locations. With Google Sites, building a website is easy! Just drag content where you need it. You will be guided, via video and text-based tutorials, through all of the steps needed to create a Google Site. 4 SCECH credits are available for a $10 fee

You will learn how to save and share lists of Google Maps locations to use with your students. Google My Maps is a newer Google mapping tool that is associated with a user's Google Drive. It provides a way for you and your students to create and share customized maps.
