Teacher Talk
Featuring Ms. Luzaan Putter
Who we are...
We proudly introduce to you our new Secondary Art Teacher: Ms Luzaan Putter.
- Name and position?
Hello everyone! My name Luzaan Joubert Putter and I am the new Secondary Art Teacher and 6G2 form tutor at Ajman Academy
2. Where are you from?
I am from South Africa in a town called Pretoria East.
3. Family?
I am here with my husband Jan. We don’t have any children. However, we do have two cats who are like our are like our children. I also have two younger sisters Anzell and Zane.
4. Childhood nickname?
My parents and friends sometimes call me Luzie like ‘Lucy’ or Blommie 'Flower'.
5. Favourite food?
Anything that is spicy (hot), but my favourites are Indian and Thai food.
6. Hobbies?
I enjoy anything that involves being creative. I also appreciate the outdoors and being active. My husband would say that shopping is a frequent hobby of mine, but I don’t think so. J
7. Favourite place in the UAE?
We have only been here a week, so I haven’t been to many places yet. We are however planning in going to Dubai at the end of the month. I have heard that the Dubai Mall is impressive, with a lot of activities to do, so I am looking forward to experiencing it. I would also like to do a desert safari and visit the Atlantis.
8. Most memorable experience as a teacher so far?
In this school, I must say the fact that everyone is so friendly here and will go out of their way to help you. It made me feel at ease very quickly, and I am so thankful for it.
9. Funniest moment in your teaching career?
It would probably be when we had a teacher concert at my previous school — the students paid to come and see what talents their teachers have. We were all a bit silly on stage, and it was amusing. I was a little garden gnome mixed up in Goldilocks and the three bears, along with the "Three little pigs" and "The big bad wolf story".
10. The most challenging moment in your teaching career?
I think it was saying goodbye to my old school. I spent four years teaching there, but before it, I used to go to school there. It was a tough decision because you get so attached to the learners and colleagues, but I am looking forward to a new and very exciting chapter in my life.
11. Childhood hero?
My mother. Her hard work and diligence have always been inspiring. She has always supported me in everything that I do. We have a very close relationship (she’s like my best friend), and I know that I can tell her anything. One thing that I can never do is keeping the truth from my mother.
12. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
I would probably have become a professional dancer or dance teacher. I used to do all different types of dancing for example hip hop, modern, jazz, disco, ballet, funk, contemporary and tap. I tried doing sports, but wasn’t very good at it!
