Parent-Teacher Conferences
October 4, 2019
Dear Parents,
Early Release conferences are fast approaching. Dyer students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, October 23rd and Thursday, October 24th. Please be sure to note these important schedule changes.
The purpose of a parent-teacher conference is to discuss student achievement and progress. Each parent-teacher conference will last for a period of twenty minutes, and both parents are urged to attend. Please be prompt as these conferences are scheduled consecutively. If a situation arises and you are unable to attend your scheduled conference, please notify the teacher so the conference can be rescheduled.
To schedule your conferences this year, simply go to our school’s conference site https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Dyer_Elementary_School_3 and click on your teacher’s name. The schedule will open on Friday, October 4th at 4:00pm. There you will be able to see your teachers’ schedules and sign up for a time that best suits you. Computers will be available at Dyer for you to sign-up there as well. The ability to sign up for a conference online will close on Friday, October 18th at 3:00pm. Please contact your child’s teacher directly to sign up after the close of online scheduling.
We look forward to seeing you during conference week.
Sincerely,
Sally Simmons
Assistant Principal

Wanted: Arctic Adventure Book Fair Volunteers
The first book fair of the year is always the biggest and most exciting for the students. We need some fun loving, book loving volunteers to help make this Arctic Book Fair a success. If you are good at decorating, we need you! If you like to organize and display products, we need you! We are also looking for volunteers to help with preview days, which requires helping the kids write down what they want to buy. We need people who are willing to run the cash registers. The children need help with shopping and counting out their money. We cannot have a successful book fair without the help of wonderful volunteers like you.
If you can help, please click on this link to get to the volunteer sign-up-genius.

Bruster's Blue Ice - Wednesday, 10/16
Annual Book Character Day: Thursday, 10/31
Dyer Elementary is excited to announce the return of Book Character Dress Up Day on Thursday, October 31. On that day, each student is invited to come to school dressed up as a character from a favorite book. Since this is a literacy celebration, the characters should come from a story that was a book first.
Please do not feel like you need to purchase a costume. A simple homemade costume is great!
Your child should bring a copy of the book the character appears in or a picture of the front cover of the book.
Each teacher will select one student to be interviewed as their character by Mrs. Langford & Mr. DiFilippo. In addition, each class will vote for their "Favorite Character" and "Most Original/Creative Character" (think creative use of materials.) That makes for a total of 3 prize winners per class, those students will get to choose a book from the Bookmobile!
Help Wanted! PAWS Bingo Party - Friday 11/1
