Thank you, Matt Atkins!! The Buccaneers appreciate you!
MESSAGE FROM RYAN BICKLEY, PRINCIPAL OF BURNETT JUNIOR HIGH
Howdy Bucs-
One last SHOUT OUT to our amazing School Board and all they do for our students. We appreciate you, not only in January, but year round!!!
We are about to wrap up our first 3-weeks back at school and will be having our first round of progress reports. Please encourage your child to check their grades and come in for tutoring. The school year will fly by from this point on and those grades will matter for moving on to the next grade level, and for our Algebra and Spanish I students, high school GPA!!!
We asked students to not wear jeans last this week and be in dress code, but the message doesn't seem to be sinking in. So, for another week, we are going to say NO JEANS. Students may still wear a college shirt or Burnett shirt on Thursday and Friday, but they MUST be in standardized pants. Polos and standardized pants are required Monday-Wednesday. If they can get back on track, we will reinstate jeans next week. Encourage your child and check what they are wearing before they leave for the day... I have lots of dress up days, jeans days, and more fun planned, but we have to follow the rules. And let's be fair, it is a VERY simple dress code... khaki pants, polo, and a hoodie. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Dance:
I have had lots of questions regarding the dance, there is more information below regarding dress for the evening!
Course Selection for 2020-2021:
There is information below for our 8th graders regarding meetings and course selection days. It is hard to believe we are talking about their freshman year. 7th graders will be picking their 8th grade classes on Monday, March 16th.
I hope you have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Ryan

Per the Collin County Health Services:
We just wanted to send a quick update that we are monitoring the 2019 Novel Coronavirus situation closely and receiving updates from the CDC. At this time, there is no guidance for schools to do anything differently. Schools should continue to practice normal flu season precautions, hand washing, practice cough etiquette, routine disinfection of high touched surfaces, and excluding children with fever until fever free for 24 hours.

A Night At the Oscars - Burnett Formal Dance
7:00-9:00 pm
Tickets - $5.00 in advance, $7.00 at the door
The big question we always get is... "Is this a formal?" You can dress up or down as much as you want. There is NO right or wrong. Everyone is welcome and we don't want anyone feeling pressure to go and buy something. For those who do want to go buy a dress or suit and go all out, that is perfectly acceptable as well. The dance is meant to be a a great time with friends!
***HOWEVER... there is a dress code as far as things that are appropriate. We have never had an issue with dresses and the girls do a great job or keeping it modest, but a big trend I am seeing is the skirt with the top that shows the stomach. No mid-drifts will be allowed. If the dress is strapless, a scarf or cardigan should be worn. My go to advice is, "if you have to ask, it probably isn't appropriate." If you are worried or have concerns, please contact me!
