Holland Elementary School Message
November 8, 2019
Hello HES Families,
The staff of Holland Elementary School and I invite families to join us next week in observing Council Rock Education Week – November 11th-14th. Although families are always welcome visitors to our school, we especially enjoy seeing them during the week set aside as a time to see our classrooms in operation. In our opinion, there is no better way to see the school as your child sees it. The dates for families to visit the school will be:
- Monday, November 11th – 9:30-11:30
- Tuesday, November 12th – 1:00-3:00
- Wednesday, November 13th – 9:30-11:30
- Thursday, November 14th – 1:00-3:00
Certain guidelines must be followed to ensure that visits by families enhance the educational setting rather than detract from it:
- Each visitor must sign in at the office and receive a yellow Visitor’s Name Badge. The Raptor system will not be utilized during Education Week.
- Each classroom will have chairs for you to sit and observe the teaching/learning process.
- Unless invited by a teacher to participate in what the class is doing, please limit your visit to observing the process.
- Kindly mute cell phones and refrain from all cell phone usage including picture taking. This will minimize distractions to instruction as well as comply with parent requests that their child’s photograph not be taken.
- Preschool children should not be brought to school during classroom observation. Please make arrangements to leave preschool children with a sitter. They’ll soon get their chance to visit regularly!
- Remember, this is a time to observe the educational process, not to discuss your child’s performance with the teacher. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress, you'll have an opportunity to do so at the upcoming parent-teacher conference.
- Due to supervision concerns, parents may not attend lunch or recess periods.
We look forward to your visit to your child(ren)’s classroom. It will be both enjoyable and informative.

Cold and Flu Season
It is that time of year to start talking with your family about how to protect yourselves from colds and the flu. One reminder is to make sure that students come to school properly dressed. When the weather is appropriate, children will be going outside for recess, and it is highly recommended that students bring a coat, hat, and gloves when the days get colder.
Tips for Keeping Your Family Healthy
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend getting a flu shot for all family members. This is the best way to prevent getting the flu.
- Talk to your child about good hand-washing and practice washing for at least 20 seconds.
- Teach your child to cough or sneeze into the bend of their arm. If they use a tissue teach them to dispose of them in a trash can.
- Teach your child to avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth.
- Teach them to avoid sharing drinks, water bottles, and silverware.
- Do not send your child to school with a fever. It is important for them to stay home from school, rest and drink plenty of fluids.
