4th Grade Teacher Specialization
August 6th, 2019
Letter from Mr. Jarot, Mrs. Leckbee, and Mrs. Rogus.
Dear Parents of Mrs. Rogus and Mrs. Leckbee’s Students,
For the 2019-2020 school year, Mrs. Rogus and Mrs. Leckbee will be implementing a team specialization model to deliver core instruction. This teaching model has been successfully implemented in many other D303 schools. It is well-received by students, parents, and staff.
This year, Mrs. Leckbee will be partnering with Mrs. Rogus to provide your child’s educational experience. Mrs. Leckbee will specialize in math and science and Mrs. Rogus will specialize in literacy and writing. This will mean your student will begin his/her day with one teaching specialist and as the course of the day progresses, the other teaching specialist will assume instruction for the other content areas. Students will remain in their homeroom classes during the day, while Mrs. Leckbee and Mrs. Rogus switch rooms to deliver their instruction. Your child will receive instruction in handwriting and read aloud from their homeroom teacher.
When considering how we can best support student learning and provide the level of instruction needed to meet the rigorous demands of grade-level standards, this model will provide our teachers with the opportunity to increase their professional expertise and become “content area specialists.” Students will have access to instruction that will be differentiated and individualized, reflecting depth and teacher expertise. This teaching team will work together to support the needs of all students in all content areas and will be equally accessible to parents to discuss student progress and learning.
In order to ensure the success of this instructional model, Mrs. Rogus and Mrs. Leckbee have worked collaboratively to develop instructional plans to support this model. The master schedule has been built to provide collaboration time for teaching teams to meet. Additionally, teaching teams have identified practices and protocols that will ensure that students and parents have a consistent experience.
We are excited for the upcoming school year and look forward to meeting you at Supply Drop-Off on August 12th (4:00-5:30) and providing more details during our Curriculum Night on August 28th (6:00-7:00). We appreciate your partnership and look forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Nathan Jarot Allison Rogus Dena Leckbee
