Introduction
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
My name is Angela Jolly, and I am thrilled to be your child’s Physical Education Teacher this year! I’ve been teaching for four years, two of which in the wonderful City Schools of Decatur at F.AVE. I am excited to join the Clairemont Bulldogs. Go Dogs! It is going to be an amazing year full of physical activity and fun for all. Here are some important things to know to keep your kids informed and safe in P.E. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns ajolly@csdecatur.net. I look forward to a great year!
P.E. Topics & Skills
Currently, Students are working on PE routines, expectations, intro. to movement, teamwork, and fitness development. Within this unit, students learn about the daily P.E. routines & responsibilities, behavioral & grade expectations, cooptation & collaboration skills, and safety procedures. Students will also focus on, developing movement patterns to improve: coordination, balance and awareness while in motion. From there, students learn how to control their bodies within whole group activities such as tagging, and cooperative games. Lastly, Students will work on developing meaningful fitness, by goal setting and tracking progress. Students will focus on flexibility, aerobic fitness and muscle endurance through P.T. Stations and the running track.
P.E. Necessities, Student Health & Grading Standards
Students will be moving a lot in P.E., and as you may know, P.E. takes place outside. Students are exposed to high temperatures and humidity. That’s why it is important that students stay hydrated and wear breathable clothing. Please encourage your kids to bring water bottles to PE and keep their jackets inside until it starts getting colder. In addition, if your child has asthma, diabetes, allergic reactions, etc.… please make sure that medication & documentation are on file & up-to-date with nurse Chanell Huff-Cox chuff-cox@csdecatur.net. Mosquitoes and other insects are very active around the pavilion, so it might be a good idea to apply bug spray to your little ones. Proper footwear is essential in preventing injuries and limited movement during P.E. Please make sure your kids are wearing closed shoes without heals. Lastly, Students are graded on participation, skills/knowledge, and sportsmanship (social-emotional skills).
