Better BaC's 150 Project
The Better BaC's are working on collecting 150 of each project they undertake to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Otoe County Fair. In January, they are collecting Mittens/Gloves/Socks. All items will be donated in the Otoe County area. If you want to help them meet their goals, you can drop off items here at the Extension Office. Clubs and families can do their own ideas as well. We would like people to report their success whether it is 150 or not so we can compile the success of Otoe County for the fair. If clubs get a 150-achievement project, we would love to hear about that as well.
150 New 4-H Members
Going with the Better BaC's 150 project theme, I personally challenge Otoe County to recruit 150 new 4-H members. I realize this sounds like an impossible challenge, however, with the new Shotgun club, Archery program, and new clover kids, we are already at 29 new members!!
- So, let's do the math: 121 members needed- we have 20 active 4-H clubs.
121 / 20 = 6 new members per club.
Now, it doesn't seem so impossible- right??? Remember, it doesn't cost anything for someone to enroll. Let's get our 4-H Ambassador hats on and make this happen!!
Send me your updates so you can be recognized for meeting the challenge!!
Career Fair coming up
The Syracuse FFA chapter wants to invite you to showcase careers within your company at our Career Fair.
Hello! My name is Nicole Mowry and I am the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor for Syracuse High School. This year, FFA is putting on a career fair for all high school students. This event will be held on Thursday, February 23rd from 9-11 in our middle school gym. Each grade will have roughly 30 minutes to walk around and talk to different businesses that interest them. Each class has roughly 50 kids. We will have a table set up for you if you choose to bring materials.
The goal of this event is not to recruit students to work for you, but rather to inform them about your career. Students like to hear first hand about careers and learn what happens day to day, the good and less desirable parts of the job.
Please fill out this form regardless if you are coming or not so we know you got the invitation. If we do not hear back, our officer team will reach out. Please let me know if you have any questions.
State Fair Changes for 2023
Message for Families, Newsletters, and Exhibitors:
With each new State Fair season, brings new possibilities and opportunities for 4-H families in Nebraska. The opportunity for 4-H to continue having its own weekend allows more flexibility for new events, entry limits, schedules, and space. We want to continue to take advantage of that!
As part of that process, we continue to explore age eligibility requirements for State Fair participation. After garnering user input, researching data from other events/shows/states, and looking that overall impact on youth development, the decision has been made to change the age of eligibility in 2023 to be 9 years of age before January 1 (of the current year) for all in-person events (livestock, contests, fashion shows).
More information will be forthcoming.
Starting in 2023, all livestock in contention to exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair will be required to submit a DNA nomination. This includes all 4-H and FFA breeding livestock, market livestock, and feeder calves. Any DNA nomination submitted through Show Stock Manager will also be eligible for exhibition at the Aksarben Stock Show. DNA nominations will be $7.00 per animal. All animals will automatically be eligible for both breeding and market–no additional fees or double payments will be required. DNA nominations for the Nebraska State Fair are due on June 15, 2023.
Be sure to get enrolled!
Just log into your account using last year's information, make any changes or updates to emails, phone numbers and addresses, select the project areas you are interested in, answer all questions (there are only 2 required questions under the health form.) and be sure to hit the submit button. Here is the link https://v2.4honline.com/
It's getting to be that time! Year End Club Treasurer's Report are due Jan 31, 2023.
