Family S.T.E.A.M night!

Get excited and mark your calendars for our first TCE FAMILY S.T.E.A.M. NIGHT on Friday, February 5th from 5:30-7:30pm. STEAM is an educational term to describe real world opportunities for students to learn with science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. At the TCE FAMILY STEAM NIGHT, TCE students and their family members of all ages are welcome to come and participate in a variety of unique, educational STEAM experiences. Participants will travel as a family (children with their adults) to share in the learning process! Pizza will be available in the cafeteria for families to purchase. More details will be forthcoming! We hope you plan to be there!

PTO Meeting

On Thursday, January 14 at 6:00pm our Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Combs, will be joining us at our PTO meeting to talk more about how HSE21 and the 1:1 iPad roll-out will work for K-4 elementary grades. Next year all students in HSE (including our Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students) will use an iPad at school as a tool for learning. Please join us at this meeting to learn more. We will meet in the library. Our PTO will provide childcare in the gym.

We will have some fun prizes available for those in attendance, as well. We look forward to seeing you January 14 at 6:00pm!

Cardinals Fit Club

Are you interested in fitness and exercise? Do you love to be active? If so, this club is for you! Students will be exercising for approximately 30 minutes each meeting, so athletic clothes and tennis shoes are ideal!

Who: All TCE students (K-4) are invited to join the Cardinals Fit Club!

When: We will meet each Wednesday morning at 8:00 and will begin on January 27th. If there happens to be a 2 hour delay, the club would be canceled that morning.

Please return the permission slip that was emailed earlier in the week to school before Wednesday, January 13th! If you have any questions at all, please contact Mrs. Gibson at cgibson@hse.k12.in.us.

Choir Club

Choir Club information was sent home this week. If your child is interested in joining the Choir Club, the slips are due next Monday, January 11th. This is an optional club that will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays before school at 8 a.m. in the music room. No auditions! (Possible lottery depending on the size of interest). Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, January 19th. The club will meet for 5 weeks and will have a small performance on February 23rd at 6 p.m. for friends and family to enjoy what we've learned! Please email mwillard@hse.k12.in.us if you have any questions!

We are Learning...

We will continue to study nonfiction texts. We will be learning how to gather information from informational texts so that we can become experts on a topic. We will be comparing and contrasting different books on the same topic as we read.

We will be focusing on subtraction to 100 with and without regrouping.

We will continue our unit on nonfiction writing texts. Students will understand the structure of explanatory and informational texts. They will learn how to write so that they can teach others.

We will continue our study of matter. Students will be studying the properties of solids, liquids, and gases.

Word Study:

Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We will be focusing on 13 new vocabulary words. Those words are: matter, solid, liquid , gas, property , mixture , solution , reaction, evaporation, matter, mass, condensation, and dissolve.
