FCI Connect Meeting Rescheduled
Lost & Found
ATTENTION PARENTS OF 5TH GRADE STUDENTS:
According to the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), vision screening is required for all 5th grade students. This year, FCI vision screening will be performed by a team of district nurses on Wednesday, December 5th and Thursday, December 6th, 2018. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please be sure he/she has them on the above dates so they may be screened appropriately.
If your child does not pass either the near or distance portion, you will receive a letter after the school screening. Your child may require additional evaluation by an optometrist at that time. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact the FCI nurse, Carol Gump, during normal school hours. Additionally, more information can be found on the IDOE website at https://www.doe.in.gov/student-services/health/vision-screening

Counselor's Corner

The holiday season is upon us! Although this time of year can be filled with many fun events, it can also be a stressful time for both students and parents. The following tips may help you manage family stress during this busy season.
1. Sleep & Exercise – Getting plenty of sleep and exercise is crucial to get through the holiday season.
2. Maintain Schedules – The holidays can be hectic and maintaining your child’s daily schedule can go a long way in reducing their stress (and yours!).
3. Learn To Say No - Saying yes when you should say no can leave you feeling overwhelmed. Friends & family will understand if you can't participate in every activity.
4. Take A Breather - Make some time for yourself. Spending just 15 minutes taking a walk with your kids or reading a book may refresh you enough to handle everything you need to do.
5. Plan Ahead – Planning ahead for menus, groceries, gift buying, etc. will prevent the last minute scrambling. Finding a grocery store that has a turkey at noon on Thanksgiving can be a little stress inducing.
6. Be Realistic - The holidays don't have to be perfect to be enjoyable. As families change and grow, traditions and rituals often change as well.
7. Have Fun & SMILE – Laughter and big smile are powerful stress-relief medicines.
HSE Guiding All Kids
We are in year two of the HSE Guiding All Kids school counseling initiative. If you are interested in serving on the FCI Guiding All Kids advisory council, please contact John Kozloski (FCI counselor) by email at jkozloski@hse.k12.in.us. This council will meet 2-3 times this school year, generally at 7AM on Tuesdays. Our first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4th at 7AM in the FCI media center.
Homework Club
- Who: Any student needing assistance with specific concepts/completing homework
- What: Students do not need to sign up ahead of time to attend. However, they will need a note from a parent to stay after school. Students MUST have homework or need assistance as this truly is work time, not a social hour. All school rules apply.
- When: Tuesday-Thursday – after school from 2:55-3:30pm (Please note that we will no longer have homework club on Mondays or Fridays)
- Where: FCI Media Center
- Why: We recognize that we are all a team with a heart to assist our students. FCI desires to connect with students and assist them with academic needs in an environment outside the school day as the need presents itself.
NOTE: This club is not intended to be a YMCA after school child care club. However, if your child does attend the YMCA after school child care, he/she may attend homework club then go directly to the YMCA area in the cafeteria. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact FCI @ 915-4220.

***IMPORTANT FCI PROCEDURES***
IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEM REMINDERS
- Buzzer protocol - When you ring the buzzer for entry, remember that the office staff will ask you your name, intent, child's name/homeroom to ensure those that enter FCI should enter.
- Photo ID - Whether picking up or dropping off, please have photo ID such as your driver's license ready for identification purposes.
- Door 1 entry - All visitors must enter via door 1 regardless of time of day. Please do not come in the cafeteria door with students before school.
- Bus lot - Do not enter the bus lot prior to bus arrival or while buses are in the lot.
- Drop-off - Please make all attempts possible to have your child exit your vehicle on the side of the curb. Exit the opposite side and walking in between cars is not safe.
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (available for iPhones and in Google Play for all other phones) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Activity dismissal
For school-wide events such as the Hang Out, Falcon Fest, all-school stay-after basketball games, the following pick-up procedures assist in safer, quicker dismissal:
- 5th grade parents to travel north on Olio Road into the front parking lot then south on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in FRONT of the building for 5th grade.
- 6th grade parents to travel south on Olio Road into the bus parking lot then north on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in the bus lot for 6th grade. This is north of the school on the side face HSE High School.
ABOVE ALL, we know your schedules are very busy as well. However, we ask that you NOT park in the parking lot and ask your child to walk across the lot. This is not safe as there are many vehicles in the lot. Please assist us in keep all of our children safe and remain in the pick up line. We will take all possible efforts to move the line quickly and safely. Thank you in advance!! :)
