Berkeley Lake Elementary
Duluth Cluster Redistricting
Important Redistricting Information
As you may be aware, a Duluth Middle relief school will open next year in the previously known Monarch School. The building, located off Hwy 120 near downtown Duluth, is currently being renovated and will open for the 2016 – 2017 school year.
The redistricting process officially begins today, Monday, November 16, 2015.
The purpose of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) redistricting is to:
- Provide housing for majority of the students in standard classroom
- Relieve overcrowding of schools
- Balance enrollment in the schools
- Cause minimal disruption of students, when possible
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) bases any changes in attendance patterns on the following criteria:
- Current Enrollment
- Existing identifiable boundaries
- School locations
- Student transportation
Due to growth in Gwinnett County, 6800 students in six clusters, including Duluth, will be affected.
Berkeley Lake Elementary has a current enrollment of 1100 students. The proposed redistricting plan calls for 307 Berkeley Lake Elementary students to move to Chattahoochee Elementary next year.
Duluth Middle School has a current enrollment of just over 2000 students. The proposed redistricting plan calls for 586 students to move to the New Duluth Middle School next year.
Redistricting maps will be available in the front entrance of our school, at the other three elementary feeder schools and Duluth Middle School for the public to review.
Information is also available on the GCPS website. Community members and staff are invited to fill out input forms (available at the schools and on the GCPS website) and to fax them to the GCPS planning department.
The four Duluth elementary schools and Duluth Middle School each have a school and parent representative on the boundary committee. Mary Mansfield, past PTA President, and Rosario Madison, teacher, are serving on this committee for Berkeley Lake Elementary.
