The Junior Journal Team 2023
September 2021
Welcome back TEAM 2023!
We cannot thank you enough for all your support so far this year. Like our students, we were looking forward to some normalcy this school year. Our students have done an amazing job adjusting to all the changes and challenges that continue to be put in front of them, and we know this takes a lot of effort on your end as well.
Our nurses are working tirelessly to ensure students are safe and well cared for. They are balancing their regular responsibilities and taking on the demands of COVID. Anything you can do to show your thankfulness to our nurses would be greatly appreciated. BHS school nurses are Ryan Elam RElam@brownsburg.k12.in.us and Melanie Carrel MCarrel@brownsburg.k12.in.us.

Governor’s Order Changes Quarantine Protocols
On Wednesday, September 1st, Governor Holcomb issued an executive order changing the quarantine rules for schools that require masks. Students who have had close contact with a positive case when they are unmasked (i.e., during lunch) will still have to quarantine and families are contacted separately about the next steps. When a student is a close contact with a positive case when both parties are wearing masks (i.e., on the bus or in class), the student will not have to quarantine. The family will still be contacted and will be asked to monitor the student for symptoms while they continue to attend school. Please contact the school nurse Ryan Elam at RElam@brownsburg.k12.in.us or Melanie Carrel at MCarrel@brownsburg.k12.in.us if you have further questions.

Free and Reduced Lunch Application
While meals are free for all students again this year, it is important for any family who may qualify for free and reduced meals to complete the application. A new application must be completed each year. Those who qualify may receive assistance for curricular materials and other fees in addition to other support. Follow the link for more information.

Academic Assistance
The best way to get help in a class is to contact the teacher for assistance. You can contact them directly by email. If you notice your student has any missing assignments in PowerSchool, please contact the teacher to get more information. You can find your student’s teachers’ email addresses hyperlinked on PowerSchool, or by accessing our staff directory on the Brownsburg High School website.
For additional academic support, contact Mr. Carlos Calero.
