Message from our counselor, Mr. Scherrman
We had a great start to this school year! Students are diving into their studies and character lessons are underway. Last month we discussed respect with every grade level. October is the month where we will be focusing on Responsibility. I will meet with each class to provide a lesson and help them understand the importance of this character trait. Please discuss responsibility with your student(s) throughout the month to ensure that they will be positive role models for their classmates each and every day.
Red Ribbon Week will be October 22-26. We will have exciting themes for dressing up during the week to promote this campaign. The 2018 National Red Ribbon theme is: Life Is Your Journey, Travel Drug Free. We will be tying in our October character trait with this week’s events. Keep an eye out for the calendar!
October 31st we will be having Career Day for our Broncos! I am recruiting anyone that would like to volunteer a half of their time (8-11:30am) to come to Brill and present. Our presenters will provide information about their profession, their experiences, the educational path needed to achieve their goals, and any other fun information that will excite students to pursue each career. Please email me your name and profession if you are interested.
Sleep, Sleep, and Sleep. Parents, please help your students understand how significant a good night’s sleep is to their academic and physical performance. Kids between 5 and 12 years old should be getting at least 9 hours of sleep each night. Our students are busy all day long and are constantly strengthening themselves mentally and physically. Sleep is the best way for students to recover from a hard day’s work.
Thank you and have a great month!
Tony Scherrman

Did you know that there is a parent website dedicated to MAP? Your child has taken the MAP test for Reading, Math, Language, and Science this year. This test is a norm-referenced test that shows how your child is academically with other children across the nation their age. It is a tool that teachers use to help students with areas of weakness and to enrich areas of strength. The website shows how to read a MAP report and what this means in regards to your child's score. For more info, visit this link:
