Special 2018 SandTray Edition
What is SandTray and How Can It Help Our Students?
At MHS I have the following sands available: playground sand; kinetic sand; Sands Alive sand; Jurassic Sands including quicksand, riverbed, original, and stardust.
I plan to use small, personal SandTrays during Guidance class using the Mandala SandTray method as well as building "worlds.". This will help the students to learn to self-regulate rather than becoming angry or agitated when they are upset.
I also plan to use SandTray Sessions for calming, conflict resolution, bullying cessation, as well as learning to heal from trauma and/or anxiety. This involves building their "world" in the sand which allows them to move the nonverbal information from the right (nonverbal) side of the brain to the left (verbal) side. This is done by placing "miniatures" into the tray either freely of as directed to show their point if view.
My hope is that by utilizing SandTray with our students, they will have less stress and conflicts which escalate to the point that they interfere with the students' learning.
