School Safety and Emergency Procedures
Every school in Rhode Island has an Emergency Operation Plan. EOP's provide detailed instructions for how to handle various emergency situations. Our plans are reviewed annually with our school-based safety team, which includes representatives from local emergency response agencies. District plans are also reviewed by local police chiefs as well as the Chariho School Committee. All school staff are aware of our confidential emergency procedures and provide ongoing feedback following each drill.
We are required to conduct regular safety drills at least monthly.
We held our first Fire Evacuation Drill on Thursday. I provided students with an announcement and direction before the drill began. Moving forward, drills will all be unannounced.
Our staff members stress the importance of safety procedures in language and terms that are developmentally appropriate for our young students. Please help by discussing the drills with your child, particularly if they are expressing any concerns, such as the volume of the fire alarm. Families are always encouraged to create and practice their own home fire evacuation plans.

WE'RE RIDE COMMENDED !!!
Only 28 public schools in RI are Commended, and only 18 elementary schools.
Commended Schools are the schools that are the highest performing in the state. We have worked hard as a learning community to achieve Commended Status again and we are proud of this accomplishment!
Last Spring, our 3rd and 4th graders participated in RICAS testing. We were impressed with the effort of our students during the four days of testing. RICAS results will be shared soon.
We are hopeful that we will retain our Commended Status.
