EECV Family Newsletter
October 2023
A Message from the Principal
Hello EECV Families!
As we have welcomed the new school year and new students, we have been busy practicing drills and procedures with our students. This week, we walked to the Elyria Schools Administration Building (near our school) to practice evacuating our school in case of an emergency. Although it was longer walk than our students were used to, they did an amazing job following directions and getting to the safe space quickly. We also practiced intruder drills this week. Staff and students followed directions and were able to make their space safe and inaccessible quickly. Regular practice of safety drills occurs across all Elyria City Schools buildings and at all grade levels. Thank you to all of our students for their attention and cooperation as we practiced this week.
As a reminder, each month you will receive an email with a monthly newsletter that will feature news and important information about our school. This edition is dedicated to important information including school pictures, our fall activity day, and upcoming events. Please take time to read it through.
Also, please follow us if you are not already: Elyria Early Childhood Village;

Hello! My name is Laura Sweeney and I am one of the Occupational Therapists at EECV. I have been an OT for almost 8 years and this is my fourth year with Elyria City Schools. Occupational therapists typically work with students that have fine or visual motor delays, however, we are also available to support all students fine and visual motor development. Below are some fun Fall fine motor activities that can be completed in the home!

From Our School Nurse
October is the time to get your flu shots and focus on staying healthy during cold and flu season! Hand washing is the key to minimizing the spread of germs. Please click here for family-friendly hand washing tips, and allow your child to stay home and rest when they aren’t feeling well. By working together, we can make our Village the healthiest and happiest place.
Head lice are a nuisance that can happen to anyone. Head lice are tiny, wingless insects that can attach to a person's hair, where it feeds on tiny amounts of blood drawn from the scalp. Head lice, while annoying, aren't dangerous and they don't spread disease. Find information about head lice detection and prevention here: https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/head-lice-sheet.html
If your child will be absent, please call the EECV office at (440) 284-8000. Feel free to call Nurse Packman at (440) 284-8099 with any questions or concerns about your child’s health.
