Falco February 1st -5th
2021 Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson MS
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy February Falcon Families!
It’s the first week of February and the last week of the first semester! I have to acknowledge that this has felt like the longest first semester I’ve had in my career in education - and it’s time to celebrate! Lately I’ve heard many comments about how much learning is lost but I’d like to offer another perspective; students have learned so much this year so far including, many new technological skills like how to navigate multiple platforms that are continuing to increase in use daily across the globe, making our students even more part of the global community that will shape the future. They have learned how to communicate in a digital world and continue to hone their skills daily. Students have also gained resilience and have had opportunities to show their creativity and expand that exponentially! One of the things that I have to reflect on is that while this isn’t the trajectory I had, students are showing that even in a global pandemic, we can make good things out of strange situations!
This is a great week to celebrate with your student and look at how we can continue the momentum for next semester. This Friday is a grading day for teachers which means students will not have classes. Unlike other four day weeks, students have the usual Wednesday schedule this week, that means they’ll have advisory and then a day to work asynchronously on anything they need to finish up for the first semester.
Have a great week and as always, reach out with any questions or comments kelly_cox@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Parents and Guardians:
Our registrar began notifying you of needed immunizations starting in September. Please get the immunizations done at your provider's office and return the completed paperwork to the school.
On January 13th, Washington County Health Department was sent a list of students who are not up to date. The County will send you an exclusion notice. Your child will not be excluded from CDL but when we do return to in person learning, your student will not be able to attend until they are up to date and the school has received written notice.
Absences for exclusion are considered unexcused. It can be very difficult to get an appointment with a provider for several weeks before exclusion so please get this done now! It is also the perfect time to get a flu shot for your child if you have not already done so.
