ELAR TEKS Overview for Teachers, 5-8
8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
Participants will closely read and deconstruct the revised ELAR TEKS for implementation. Participants will review the current and revised TEKS and thoroughly analyze the verbs and potential outcomes. There will be a chance to practice with each strand in order to fully understand what students are asked to know and do with an emphasis on vertical alignment in grade-level bands.
Deepening Independence in Readers and Writers Workshop: Engaging and Purposeful Student-Centered Experience, K-2
March 7th

Are you concerned that your students are not participating in meaningful learning experiences while you are pulling small groups or conferring? Do you want to cut back on worksheets and provide your students with more engaging work while they are working independently? This session will include instructional ideas that will deepen independence in reading and writing. It will include student-centered experiences for independent work, partner work, and small group learning. Classroom routines, instruction, and assessment will be shared with classroom examples.
Gettin' Techy with It..., 9-12

In this session, you will learn various ways to incorporate technology into secondary literacy instruction. You will have the opportunity to use digital tools for student engagement. Some of the tools include Google Suites, Smore, various blogging platforms, My Simple Show, and so much more! This will be a hands-on, interactive session. You will leave with tons of free resources and digital books to use in your classroom.
Prekindergarten Guidelines - Starting Off Right!, Pre-K

High-quality, early-learning experiences provide a great start for success for prekindergarten students! Come investigate the best practices and current research laid out in the Prekindergarten Guidelines and learn how to implement them in your classroom to support diverse learners and promote school readiness. This two-day session will provide an interactive overview of the introduction and 10 domains outlined in the Prekindergarten Guidelines: Social and Emotional Development Language and Communication Emergent Literacy - Reading Emergent Literacy - Writing Mathematics Science Social Studies Fine Arts Physical Development Technology Let's start these young minds off right!
Integrate! Connecting ELAR and Social Studies for Secondary Learners, 9-12

This session is geared toward both high school Social Studies and English teachers. How can we integrate curriculum to make learning impactful, authentic, and memorable for our students? What types of texts, technology, and instructional strategies can we use to connect literacy to real-world application? As a ninth- through twelfth-grade teacher, you will walk away with ideas, resources, and projects that utilize both SS and ELAR TEKS and can be taught in either a content classroom or in a collaborative environment.
Reaching Every Student: Responsive Teaching in the Secondary ELA Classroom, 6-12
8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.
How can I meet the needs of every student in my class? In this session, you will answer this question through a responsive lens. You will gain strategies in differentiating instruction as well as begin moving toward a more interactive, student-centered approach to literacy. Ultimately, you will leave feeling confident in being able to confer with individual students, teach strategies in groups, and utilizing various workshop elements with your adolescent students.
What to Do When the Kids Just Don't Get It, K-4
8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.
In this class, teachers will take a deep dive into guided reading. The focus will be on assessing comprehension, selecting texts that are meaningful to students, and planning small group lessons that teach comprehension and so much more. Attendees will leave with hands-on experience and practical ideas to improve their guided reading lessons.
