Happy Sunday Ram Families!

I hope this week's newsletter finds you all well and rejuvenated after a restful weekend. We have had a pretty smooth opening to the school year despite the lingering threat of Covid, some record humidity and heat, and even a brush fire near the school this past Thursday! Our students have returned eager to learn, and there is a lot of excitement on campus as sports are beginning to practice, clubs are beginning to meet, and students are starting to develop their routines for the school year.

Returning to school is also a time to make sure student behavior is school appropriate. As a reminder for all students and families, Twin Peaks Middle School is a NO PLACE FOR HATE School - this means we have zero tolerance for incidents of bullying or harassment on our campus, on your way to and from school, and during any school-sponsored activity. Students, please be mindful of the words you use and the potential impact they may have on others. Please use your words to build others up, not tear people down. If you need to report an incident of bullying or harassment, please contact one of our Assistant Principals or use the See Something, Say Something QR Code at the bottom of this newsletter.

Our first TPMS Foundation meeting of the year was this past Wednesday, 8/24 and we had an awesome turnout - thanks to all of our Ram parents that attended! Foundation President Kym Sosnowski shared an overview of the year and recent items and purchases the Foundation has made to support TPMS. Discussion was focused on larger donation projects for the school, the New Year Red Envelope campaign, and the Fall Foundation Social event, tentatively scheduled for Friday September 23rd at Second Chance Brewery. More details to come - check out the Foundation section below with photos of some of our their recent donations.

We currently have an opening for a parent member on our TPMS School Site Council for a two-year term! According to our bylaws, interested candidates must have a student that attends Twin Peaks Middle School and should be selected by other TPMS parents. If you are interested in serving on our School Site Council, please complete the Candidate Interest Form LINKED HERE before 3pm on September 6th, 2022. All interested candidates will be included on our voting form that will be shared with all TPMS families on September 7th. Voting will remain open until 5pm on Friday, September 9th. If you have questions about this process or the SSC, please send me an email.

Finally this week, we hope to see all of our parents at Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 7th starting at 5:30pm. I will begin with a short welcome, after which we will hear from the TPMS Foundation and PTSA Presidents about what they do to support TPMS and how parents can get involved. We will begin class room visits and rotations starting at 5:45pm, which will provide parents an opportunity to visit each of their student's classes and Homeroom (Ram) for 10 minutes each. Teachers will have an opportunity to introduce themselves, give a brief course overview, and share their student expectations with parents. It should be an awesome night - please plan on joining us!

Important Attendance Information

If your student is absent, late, or leaving early, please call the Attendance Hotline the same day at (858) 668-2730 with all the requested information. This prevents attendance calls in the evening and speeds up the pickup process.

The latest we can allow early release is 2:45pm in order to avoid heavy traffic congestion. If your student is marked absent for a period, and you feel that it is in error, please have the student contact their teacher to discuss the absence. Attendance cannot change an absence without the teacher’s approval first.

TPMS Cross Country

Open for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. No try-outs. FIRST PRACTICE starts Tuesday, August 30th. Students use PE lockers to dress out and store belongings. Running clothes and
supportive running shoes required. Practice duration: 1 hour. Application must be turned in to Front Office or Room 201 before practicing.

TPMS Golf Practice

Applications are now available in the main office. All student applications must be turned in to Front Office or Room 201 in order to practice.

Practices Times and Locations:

  • Mondays: On Campus (3:30 – 4:30pm, meet at lunch tables)
  • Wednesdays: Oaks North Golf Course (Tee time is 4:30pm)

TPMS Science Olympiad

The Science Olympiad will have its 1st meeting of the year on Tuesday, August 30th, from 3:30-4:00pm in Mr. Smith's Room. (709) Our team went to the State Championships last year - we can't wait to see how far they go this season! We hope to see you there!

Make-Up Picture Day

Make-Up Picture Day will be on Thursday, September 1st. Any student who did not have their photo taken at Registration will have their picture taken during PE, or RAM if they do not have PE on that day. If you have any questions, please call the main office or email Christie Hamilton at

TPMS Choir - Come Sing With Us!

TPMS Choir will start singing on September 6th! Practices will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:20-8:30am. Students need to be on time and can not miss more than 4 practices total for the choir session. We will perform a December concert at Twin Peaks, and another with the Poway High School Choir at their concert Dec 5 &6. No experience necessary - boys and girls welcome!!

Back To School Night

Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 7th from 5:30-7:30pm on the TPMS Campus. This will be an opportunity for parents to visit campus and hear from their students' teachers about their classrooms and plans for the upcoming school year. Please plan on joining us starting at 5:30pm in the main quad for a Welcome from Principal Mills and information on how to get involved with TPMS through our PTSA and Foundation. Classroom rotations will begin at 5:45pm. Please make sure to join us for this event as it returns to a live on-campus event for the first time since 2019!

Twin Peaks Spirit Wear

Please CLICK HERE to order your TPMS spirit wear for the upcoming school year! Orders can be placed through September 9th for this first order window. There will be other opportunities to order spirit wear later in the school year, but this is your chance to have your gear in hand before Halloween!! Go RAMS!!

WEB 6th Grade Carnival

Calling all 6th graders!! Make sure to block out Friday, September 9th from 3:30-5pm to come and hang with your WEB leaders and fellow classmates at the 6th Grade WEB Welcome Carnival! Tickets will be going on sale THIS WEDNESDAY 8/31 for $5 each - this includes your admission and food for the carnival! It's going to be a great time Rams - make sure you buy your ticket early and don't forget to bring a friend! Tickets on sale in the WEB room (300 Bldg) at lunch.

All Executive Board meetings will be held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:15pm in the TPMS Library unless listed otherwise. Association Meetings will be held in September, February, and April. Board meetings are open to PTSA Board Members and Committee Chairs while Association Meetings are open for all members of the Twin Peaks Middle School PTSA:

Work for TEAM #PUSD!

We continue to have several non-teaching/classified positions open at TPMS that we are still looking to fill, and maybe you or a friend are the right person for the job! Please consider joining Team PUSD as an Instructional Assistant (3 and 6 hour daily shifts), Campus Security Specialist (7.5 hours a day), Noon Duty (2 or 3 hour daily shifts), or as our morning and afternoon crossing guard (7 hours a week!). Food Services @TPMS

School meals, including breakfast, will be free for all students this year. Breakfast and lunch will be served at our windows each day during your student's assigned lunch period. A la carte drinks will also be available for purchase - please know that our food services NO LONGER ACCEPT CASH at their windows. Students will need to add credit to their My School Bucks account in order to pay for a la carte items.

Our food service windows are only open during breakfast and lunch time - please make sure your student brings a refillable water bottle with them to school so that they can use one of our water bottle filling stations. How to Find Student Class Schedules

Student class schedules are available online through StudentVue and ParentVue. Students will need to access their StudentVue accounts with the same login information that they used last year... in case you forgot, the username is the 7-digit student ID#, and their password is their 6-digit birthday(MMDDYYYY). We encourage students to download the StudentVue app and parents to download the ParentVue app for additional convenience.

For families new to PUSD, an informational letter with a new user account name and password was sent to all parents of secondary students (grades 6-12). If you did not receive this letter, have misplaced it, or if you are a parent of a new student enrolled after the start of school, please visit the website to retrieve their username or select a new password.
