GOODNOE GAZETTE
December 16, 2022
This month has been filled with lots of joy and fun for students! We kicked off the month of December with the amazing Holiday Shop and this week were treated to the beautiful sounds of the Advanced Orchestra, Advanced Band and The Goodnoe Singers (a.k.a. Goods). The school and evening performances showcased our students' talents. I was incredibly proud of the pride and confidence demonstrated by musicians and singers! Their hard work has paid off and they should be incredibly proud. I would like to thank Mrs. Milliken, Mr. Papazian, and Mr. Keller for sharing their musical passion and leadership with our students! Additionally, the Goodnoe Singers were invited to perform for the Rotary Club’s annual Luncheon at the Temperance House this past Wednesday. The holiday spirit could be felt by all!
Have a great weekend!
Beth

Kisses for Kyle Foundation
The staff at GES are participating in the Kisses for Kyle Foundation’s Annual Holiday Gift Drive. Through this amazing program we were able to purchase gifts to brighten the holidays for many children in the Delaware Valley who are battling cancer.
Below is more information on how the Kisses for Kyle Foundation began. You can also check out their website for more information https://kissesforkyle.org
In 1998, Kyle Snyder was just three weeks shy of his second birthday when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. After a brave but brief eight-month fight, he lost his life to cancer.
In 2001, his mother Sharon founded The Kisses for Kyle Foundation to honor Kyle’s memory and to assist families in the Delaware Valley region who are battling childhood cancer.
One in every 285 children will develop cancer. While we cannot take away this diagnosis, we can help alleviate extra stresses by providing financial assistance and special experiences the entire family can cherish. It is our mission to make a positive impact on local families fighting the same fight the Snyders fought, and in Kyle’s beautiful memory.
Notes from the music room
Congratulations to all our GES musicians for their spectacular performances at the Winter Concerts this week! The music definitely put us all in the holiday spirit.
In music class our students are putting on their dancing shoes as we learn all about the Nutcracker Ballet. Next week we will host our annual school wide "Nutcracker Name That Tune Challenge!"
Can you name all of the 8 dances from the Nutcracker Suite? If you forget, click on the button below for help!
Reading Tidbits & Tips
Winter break is a great time to spend cold nights together snuggling up with a good book. Also, in reading to your children you are modeling what good reading looks like and sounds like. Even more importantly, having this joyful time together will create memories connected to reading that will last a lifetime.
5th and 6th Grade Reading Olympics
Sign-ups are now open for our Reading Olympic teams. Students read books and compete in a county-wide competition in the spring. Click here for more information and sign-ups.

Reminder from the Physical Education Department
A friendly reminder to all of our Goodnoe Grizzly families! Please remember to be prepared to participate in Physical Education class with safe footwear (preferably sneakers that tie) and warm attire for outdoor activities. The weather may determine what footwear your students wear to school that day (snow, rain, etc) so you may need to pack athletic shoes that students can wear to safely participate in our movement-based class. Boots and UGGS are not appropriate or safe for P.E. class. Thank you in advance for ensuring your child is safely prepared for Physical Education class.
Recess - Cold Weather
DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
