Let your Voice be Heard

It's that time of year again!

The Audubon Park School S.A.C wants to extend holiday wishes to the entire school community. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday and a spectacular New Year! As we head into the 3rd & 4th quarters of the school year, we want to stress the importance of letting your voice be heard. Next year promises to be a year where you will be asked to stand up in be counted numerous times, with the 2020 Census quickly approaching and the 2020 Presidential Election on the horizon. OCPS and more specifically Audubon Park School will also ask members to submit their opinions during the upcoming annual school surveys.

We look forward to hearing from all members of our school community as to what is going well, along with areas for improvement. The goal is to collect and understand the opinions of parents, students and the school community as a whole.

Below you will find the dates for these OCPS surveys. Please be on the lookout for reminders from Principal Honohan as we get closer to the survey windows. We look forward to hearing from you.

Audubon Park K8 SAC Meeting Dates:

S.A.C. meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday during the school year. As a committee, we assist the school by making recommendations on school operations. S.A.C meetings take place in the Media Center and all are welcome to attend.

What is S.A.C?

School Advisory Council

The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a school-based group intended to represent the school, the community, and those persons closest to the students. The group shares responsibility for guiding the school toward continuous improvement. The district school board is responsible, by Florida law, for establishing an advisory council for each school in the district and shall develop procedures for the election and appointment of advisory council members. The SAC is responsible for final decision making at the school relating to the implementation of the provisions of the annual School Improvement Plan (SIP). The SAC assists in the annual preparation and evaluation of both the SIP and the school’s annual budget. It is a requirement that the majority of the members of the School Advisory Council are persons who are not employed by the school district. Certain members are elected by their peers, while business and community members are appointed. The principal automatically serves. Students who are in 8th grade can serve on S.A.C. By law, every school in Florida must have a S.A.C and their S.A.C Committee must consist of parents, teachers, support personnel, and community members. Fifty-one percent (51%) of the council must be an appropriately balanced number of teachers, education support employees, students, parents, and other business and community citizens who are representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school to ensure the voices of the school community are heard. What is the S.I.P and how does it function?

The SIP is a living document that defines targeted goals to raise the achievement of our students. In order to create the best plan possible, we need your input on topics such as:

• School-based leadership

• Student Achievement

• Family and Community Engagement

• High-quality instructional practice and professional learning
