Moreau Messenger
January 2019
A Note From Mrs. Toleman
We wrapped up December with many activities to not only celebrate the upcoming holidays but also to continue to spread our message of kindness and the effect is has on others. We had a few students from the Kindness Crew speak to the Board of Education about the work they have done so far and the impact it has had on the school culture. Even Elwood and Ellen took a break from making mischief to spread kindness throughout the school. We collected pajamas to donate to families in Saratoga County and raised money to donate to Operation Southy's. Thank you to everyone who donated to these great causes.
Looking ahead to the next few months, classrooms are working on non-fiction and continuing to build their reading stamina. They continue to write about their reading across all subject areas and grow their math fluency and problem solving. All classrooms are working to improve their typing skills by using Keyboarding Without Tears.
Our HSA has some great events planned for the upcoming months. Our next HSA meeting is on Tuesday, 1/8 @ 7:00 pm. I encourage you to attend if you are able and see what is happening to support our students and classrooms.
I wish you all a wonderful 2019. Please don't ever hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all. We are always here to help.
Respectfully,
Rebecca Toleman

Stinky's Staff Spotlight
"Laurie Collins"
Here are some of the positive thoughts that the staff had to say about Laurie.
Laurie makes the best apple crisp this side of the Mississippi!!!!!!!
Wonderful with the students and always goes above and beyond making special things for students and staff. A very sweet person!
Laurie is the "behind the scene" person who does wonderful things for Moreau School and the children!
Great with her responsibilities and is always willing to jump in to lend a helping hand when times call for it.
Laurie is always looking for ways to support the students in being the best they can be!
Laurie is kind and hardworking and is always smiling.

Kindergarten News!
Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully, everyone had a lovely winter break and is ready for the 2019 year!
The Kindergarten will be studying: physical fitness, nutrition, personal hygiene, Martin Luther King Jr. and multicultural awareness in both social studies and science!
Math, we will be focusing on printing numbers up to 20, counting to 100, and addition up to 5.
The children will be busy mastering snap words, practicing their reading skills and fluency. Your child should be writing and sound-spelling words and stories at home. Practice makes perfect! ☺
Please be sure to dress your child in layers as the room temperatures vary.
Thank you for your continued support!

Some Exciting Things Are Happening in First Grade!
Happy New Year First Grade Parents!
This month, our First Graders will be traveling around the world. We have special guest speakers visiting us to talk about their experiences while visiting other countries. We will sure be learning a lot!
We will also be starting our Flat Stanley project soon. Both activities tie into our social studies curriculum of Map Skills. Be thinking about a friend or a relative who lives in a different part of our world/country/state who may be willing to help you out with this project. Be on the lookout for more information to follow soon!

Second Grade
The two-second grade classes had a fantastic time creating their gingerbread houses. The houses turned out amazing. Thank you, everyone, who helped build, donated materials and made royal icing. This truly is a community project that can't be done without the help of the volunteers.
Mr. Armenio
Ms. Bresnahan
Third Grade
We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break!
Students have begun to research and write an informational report on a chosen country! We're looking forward to learning all about the culture, government, economy, and geography and becoming an expert on a country! We're learning how to add different non-fiction text features into our report to enhance our writing!
In ELA, we're still working on learning the main idea of a text,or part of a text. It can be tricky and we're going to continue to practice!
In math, we're finishing up Module 3, and we're still practicing our math facts!
We hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2019!
