Miss Lotter's Leaders

Parent Newsletter April 25-April 29

It has been another wonderful, educational week in fourth grade! The kids are doing a great job putting first things first in preparation for the end of year, while still finding time to have fun and sharpen the saw! I am very excited for another great week ahead!

Math: In math this week, we will be MAP testing and beginning our short units on measurement, data, and geometry.

Language Arts: We will continue accountability in daily five this week! Each day, the students will track their choices and what they accomplished during each round. Students will have the option to listen to reading, read to self, work on words, and work on writing.

-We will be focusing on academic and unknown vocabulary. In preparation for the EOGs, we are going to hit vocabulary strategy lessons hard so that the kids are more than prepared! We will also be MAP testing this week.

In writing, we will be focusing on writing an opinion essay. We will have a strong focus on the structure and technical aspects of this writing piece.

Science: In science, we will be continuing a very fun unit on rocks and minerals!

Our EOG tests will be May 25 (Math) and May 26 (Reading). The countdown is 17 school days! These tests are very important, and it is necessary for the kids to know that, but we do not want them to stress out for the remainder of the year because of it. We will be working hard in class to continue to prepare them for these tests, but additional support at home would be very helpful! You can support your child by helping them with their homework, specifically with math processes and justifications and the comprehension questions and justifications with reading. Also, by helping them keep a positive and growth mindset. If the students stay positive, try their best, and work towards growth, then they will do an awesome job! I have included a video below that is a great motivator for students to begin gaining more confidence in themselves! Please let me know if you would like any other tips to help your child prepare for these tests!

We had a super fun week that included watching a live stream of our classmates competing in the Battle of the Books, and investigating igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks with candy! Check out these pictures and the wonderful video below!

This is my favorite thing that has happened this week! I love my kiddos!

They rocked the Flocabulary song on the three types of rocks!

Please join us for the play this weekend!!

-We need class snack (Preferably something already in individual portions)

-We could also use notebook paper and folders.

-As always, the most support we need is for you to continue to encourage your child to come to school and try their best! Also, to really help them in becoming a leader through emphasizing those leadership habits whenever possible.
