ELL Students Partake In Virtual Field Trip
Mrs. Adamchak took her 1st grade ELL students on a virtual field trip to the Danone Factory in Bridgeton, NJ, where they got to see how plant-based milk is made and how it gets to the stores where their families buy groceries. Her ELL students prepared questions ahead of time in English and were so excited to be able to ask them to none other than, Mr. Adamchak, who manages the cold-storage area at Danone. A fun and interesting lesson was had by all!
We Got The Beat!
For this week's music lesson, Mrs. Heininger's 1st grade students learned how to identify and tap a steady beat! Davenport Primary's music teacher, Miss Cottrell, asked students to use two pencils, pens, or markers as rhythm sticks as they tapped out a steady beat to "Hello Song".
Davenport Alumni Returns As Special Guest Decades Later!
Mrs. Doyle’s 3rd grade class enjoyed a very different kind of lesson which incorporated Lego’s, and learning about the Lego Masters’ Competition. They discussed how it takes patience and dedication to build something, and were then asked to share what they felt they were really good at and might want to compete in someday. The students were then treated to a very special finale to their lesson when Mr. Mel Brown, a true Lego Master, and former Clayton J. Davenport student joined their class. Mr. Brown talked about how he and his building partner made it onto the Lego Masters’ television show beating out 55,000 other contestants. He also spoke about how he always loved to build with Lego’s, but as he got older and became a police officer that interest got pushed to the side. Then four years ago he began “building” again, this time with his grandson. Mr. Brown was an excellent guest sharing his creations and experiences working with Lego Masters, and answering lots of questions!
School Lunches Are A Hit!

Spruce Avenue Gets "Spruced" Up!
Driving along Spruce Avenue to and from school each day, one could not help but notice how unsightly the entire roadside had become with litter and debris strewn all over on both sides. That is until recently, when Mr. Tuthill "spruced" up Spruce Avenue.
On January 27th and 28th, on behalf of the Davenport School Green Team, the Spruce Avenue section (north of the BHP ) leading up to the Davenport school parking lot was given a huge make-over. Knowing that the students could not participate in our "Adopt A Schoolyard Program" this year, Mr. Tuthill (husband of our 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Tuthill) volunteered his time and energy to pick-up all the bulk debris and recycling along Spruce Avenue. He reported the clean-up information to ACUA, giving the credit to our Davenport School Green Team program. (The irony in the photo below is unbelievable!)
