Crow Island Parent Newsletter

August 28, 2023

Dear Crow Island Families,

On Thursday morning, we will host a Meet & Greet for all students. The Meet & Greet will run from 10:45 - 11:30am and is a time for parents to bring your children to preview their classroom, see their space, and meet their teacher.

As we start school, we also want to remind parents that the building can get pretty warm. We encourage all families to send students with a water bottle to school as we will refill water bottles throughout the day. In addition, we are proactive when it is warm and classes plan for cold air breaks during the day in the cooler parts of the school.

Lastly, I want to remind all families to take a look at our arrival and dismissal procedures. It is really important that all families have a plan with their children and follow the procedures outlined in the plan. It will take us a few days to get it right so please have patience and do your part by being familiar with the expectations in the process linked in the newsletter below.

We look forward to a great first few days at Crow Island.

Meet & Greet:

Families are invited to bring your child into school to preview the classroom and quickly meet the teacher before school starts. Meet & Greets will occur on Thursday, August 31 from 10:45 - 11:30am.

  • Parking: Parking can be tricky at Crow Island. We encourage families who live close to walk to school. If you are parking, we suggest the following:

    • Circle drive off the front of the school. Please don’t double park as emergency vehicles need to access the campus.

    • South side of Willow Road in the front of the campus/park district.

    • Glendale Avenue in the designated parking spots. Please be a good neighbor and avoid parking in front of driveways of the homes on Glendale Avenue.

  • Entering: All visitors will enter school through the main entrance.

New Staff/Welcome:

We are completely staffed and hired for the school year with all of our positions filled! Many of our new staff are still working through the onboarding process and getting their district emails officially launched. As always, I hope families can join me in welcoming new staff to our Crow Island community. We are very lucky to have such dedicated professionals: You can view some of our new staff members here: Crow Island New Staff 23-24

Crow Island 101 Document:

If you are looking for quick finger-tip resources you can access our 101 document. This provides highlights of information that might be needed quickly around absences, lunch, and other information. Feel free to print and put on your fridge! You can access that here: Crow Island 101.

Arrival & Dismissal:

Our goal is to provide a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal. Please take a few minutes to review the arrival & dismissal process at Crow Island. This document contains detailed information about morning and afternoon by grade level and even has a map for parents who are driving: Arrival & Dismissal

Hot Lunch Program:

Crow Island has a hot lunch program run through a third party collaboration with our PTO called Marla's Lunch. You can register and sign-up here: Marla's Hot Lunch. Hot lunch will start September 6.

School Supplies:

If you ordered school supplies in the spring, those are delivered directly to the classroom. If you did not order supplies you can find the list of supplies here: Crow Island School supplies and you can order them and bring them to the K-4 Meet & Greet on August 31st.
