Jacqueline Luci, Information Literacy Specialist, Musson Elementary School

My name is Jackie Luci and I am delighted to be back this year at Musson Elementary as the Information Literacy Specialist (formerly Media Specialist). I am looking forward to exploring literature and technology with your children and sharing my love of learning with them.

I am a certified teacher with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I am currently enrolled in the Masters Program of Educational Technology through the University of Michigan. I was a classroom teacher before staying home to raise my four children and went back to teaching five years ago where I started out as a substitute teacher in the Rochester Schools. This will be my fourth year in the Musson Media Center and I love that I get to see all Musson students on a regular basis!
The goal of the Media Center is to ensure that students become effective users of ideas and information. My hope is to also instill in them a love and passion for books and reading. Throughout the year, we will focus on research skills, book care, literature appreciation, finding "just right" books, authors and illustrators, as well as computer operations and concepts. Various software programs and Web 2.0 tools will be used, as well as pre-selected websites on the Musson Media Center webpage. We will also concentrate on digital citizenship and internet safety; Rochester has adopted Google Apps for Education so it is important for students to learn how to use technology efficiently, responsibly, and ethically.
In the spring, all students will have the opportunity to meet a published author through our Authors in April Program. This year's authors are David LaRochelle (K-1), Sara Pennypacker (2-3), and Kate Messner (4-5). We are so fortunate to have this wonderful program in Rochester; thank you to our PTA for helping fund this!

Be sure to ask your child to share what they are learning in the Media Center. You'll be amazed at how they can navigate a computer and how excited they become when they've discovered the perfect book! You can also visit the Musson Media Center website, blog, or Twitter feed for pictures and updates about current happenings in the Media Center.

I look forward to igniting a passion for reading in your children as well as teaching them how to be information literate in today’s digital society. Please email me at any time with any questions or concerns you may have!
