On campus, there is a pronounced energy and we have many events coming up for our students. The ELITE effort that WMS students have shown this year is worthy of celebration and fun. So, please remain on the lookout, in this newsletter and future ones, for upcoming field trips, dances, and pep rally events in which your students will have the opportunity to take part.

Special Note from Our Nurse
A Parent's Need to Know
Ms. Garcia's goal is for each WMS student to be safe and well during the school day and to receive prompt attention if medical problems arise. Students who are feeling ill during class can be sent to the clinic by the teacher. Those who have more serious problems, such as bleeding, vomiting, high fever, convulsions, and migraines will be taken care of immediately.
Fever
For a student with a fever of 100 degrees or higher, the parent/guardian will be notified of need for child to be picked up. It is recommended for the student with a fever not to return to school until fever free for 24 hours without the need of medication for the fever.
OTC (Over the Counter) medications are not available in the clinic.
All medicine MUST be brought to the clinic by an adult with the appropriate medication form. Some chronic conditions require a completed packet that includes a medical plan. The forms can be found on the Nurse’s web page in the Helpful Documents tab or can be filled out at the clinic when dropping off medication. PLEASE do not place medicine in a child’s backpack as this can be a life threatening mistake. The district medication guidelines are very specific and can be located on the district website in the student/parent handbook.
Immunization documentation is not negotiable. Humble ISD must be in compliance with Texas Law. Please respond promptly when notified of immunization discrepancies so that children do not miss any educational time. We realize that this can be a time consuming errand; however, we must show documentation to the state, when requested, regarding our students’ health records for everyone’s safety.
A child must go home for specific reasons stated in the handbook under several sections (ie. Health Related Matters, Illness, etc.). A doctor’s note stating "may return to school" is required upon returning to school, if they are suspected of having a communicable disease or skin rash of unknown origin. See Health Related Matters>Communicable Disease in Handbook.
Please update the nurse of any change in medication, diagnosis, or illness that your child may have during the school year. Correspond by email, phone, fax, or stop by the clinic.
Our goal is to expedite healthcare to promote maximum instructional time…thus learning!
Parking Reminder
Please don't block the entrances and exits to the apartments around our campus during student drop-off or dismissal.
Thanks,
Woodcreek Administration

Math News
6th and 7th PreAP: Covers all three middle school math years in 3 years. (6th, 7th and 8th Grade TEKS)
8th Graders in Algebra: By 8th grade, PreAP math students take 9th Grade Algebra and receive a high school credit (successful completion of 6/7 PreAP are required). The Algebra course provided to our advanced math students is a rigorous, PreAP curriculum following all high school guidelines including a mid-term and the end of year, EOC, Algebra state assessment. Algebra EOC is a high school graduation requirement.
PreAP core courses are not an all or nothing choice for students. Students can take one, all or most PreAP core. Humble ISD and WMS encourage the advancement of all students on campus however not all students are ready for the rigor of advanced mathematics. If students are not meeting expectations on summative grades in any of theirs PreAP math courses at any grade level please reach out to your counselor or Amy Suchadoll, Math Academic Lead Teacher to discuss appropriate math class placement. We want to support all students in their future academic successes. Foundation of math is an important component of high school success. Also students looking to accelerate math instruction should reach out as well to discuss options at WMS. Together we want to be a part of building an ELITE future for all WMS Lions.

START WITH HELLO WEEK (OCTOBER 28th - NOVEMBER 1st)
The Woodcreek students and staff will participate in the “Start with Hello Week” during the week of Oct 28th-Nov 1st.
Start with Hello is a program from Sandy Hook Promise that teaches students how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Social isolation is the feeling of being left out, lonely and treated like you are invisible. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence and/or depression. As a result, many isolated individuals pull further away from society, struggle with learning and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others. Start With Hello teaches students how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other.
We are excited about the wonderful week of activities that we have planned for our students. More information about activities planned during Start With Hello Week will be available on the school website.
