A Message from Mrs. Katkocin ❤️
Dear Scotland Families,
Happy Monday! Last week, our students and staff engaged in activities across content areas designed to support culture, tolerance, empathy, compassion, kindness, and mindfulness. It was an amazing opportunity to engage our students in these enriching experiences and discussions. A huge thank you to Ms. Weirsman, Mrs. Gaitho, Mrs. White, Ms. Violante, Mrs. Kounnas, Mr. Tornate, the Diversity Days Committee, our literacy team, The Prospector, The Ridgefield Library, and our PTA for all of their work in creating these experiences for our students! Thank you to all of our teachers for supporting and sharing these experiences with our students. It was truly an incredible week!
Bus Seating Assignments
While COVID mitigating practices have been rolling back and we continue to examine what can return to a traditional format, all RPS elementary schools are maintaining bus seating assignments at this time. Since the introduction of assigned seats on the bus, the number of bus conflicts and usafe student behaviors have reduced. If you have further questions, as with all things, feel free to contact me.
In addition, March Book Madness continues this week! This week, students in grades k-2 will be reading and voting on, Every Night is Pizza Night by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt and Gianna Ruggiero vs. Someone Builds the Dream by Lisa Wheeler and Loren Long. Students in grades 3-5 will be reading and voting on, Zonia's Rain Forest by Juana Martinez Neal vs. My First Day by Phung Nguyen Quang and Huynh Kim Lien. We are excited to see which texts students like most!
Our COVID-19 screenings for families who have opted in will continue this week, Tuesday, March 8th, beginning at 8:50am. If you would like to opt your child in, kindly indicate so in PowerSchool, and notify Mrs. Martire (lmartire@ridgefieldps.net) and Mr. Crook (acrook@ridgefieldps.net). Once your child is fully vaccinated please email Aaron Crook acrook@ridgefieldps.net to remove your child from the testing roster.
Have a wonderful week!
Kind regards,
Jill
