Board Names Interim Superintendent

On Monday night, the Board of Trustees officially named Larry Smith as the interim Superintendent of GISD. Smith's entire career has been in the north Texas area, including a 5 year stint as a teacher and coach at GISD in the 80's. In 2016, Smith retired after 10 years as Superintendent of Saint Jo ISD and most recently served as interim Superintendent of Lindsay ISD. Smith will begin his interim role with GISD on April 1.

Dr. Brasher has been selected as the Lone Finalist for the Fredericksburg ISD Superintendent position. Brasher leaves GISD after 7 1/2 years as Superintendent and has helped the district make tremendous progress in many areas including district finance, facilities, and student growth just to name a few. Brasher's last day with GISD will be Friday, March 9. Listen to the Friday morning KGAF GISD report (below) to hear more from Dr. Brasher.

Teacher of the Month

The February Teacher of the Month is Glenn Fuhrmann. Mr. Fuhrmann teaches US History at GHS and has been teaching at GISD for 20 years, and a total of 25 years in education. He plays an integral role at GHS, not only in his own classroom, but as the head of the History department. The relationships he has with the students and staff at GHS is incredible.

Since Mr. Fuhrmann was out sick and unable to attend the February Board meeting, his Teacher of the Month spotlight video will be viewed for the first time at the March board meeting so he can be celebrated properly.
